What type of bulb do the newer vehicles that have the bluish white color headlights have in them? Are they brighter than the older type of headlights?
I've got a low beam out on my Z71 and I was thinking about upgrading to the newer type lights. Looking for feedback.
I'm not interested in looking cool, or anything like that, I just want the brightest headlights that I can get now and I know there are upgrades to what came stock.

I've been looking online and I am definitely going to just get a good replacement bulb. The problem that I'm finding is that they all seem to have a short lifespan. I would like to get some pure white light instead of the factory yellow-white, but I don't want a light that's only gonna last a few hundred hours.

OKAY I'M NOT PUTTING HID LIGHTS IN MY TRUCK SO LET ME RE-ASK THE QUESTION:
I would like to find a better bulb to put in my headlights than what came stock. Anyone have any experience with those? I want something that will last a long time since I run my headlights all the time, even during the day, but I would like something brighter (whiter light) than the standard halogen light.
Is that possible to find both long lasting and white light?

I have tried all of the bulbs that are supposed to give you better range or width and increased brightness. They are all expensive and do not last but roughly a year.
I went back to the standard bulbs and have never replaced them again.

I ended up going with one step above the standard halogen light. Says they're 25% brighter but it's still a yellow light. I decided I didn't want to replace bulbs every year...
A few years ago I got the haze off the lights on my wifes minivan with my heat gun. Just heated them up and they turned crystal clear again. That doesn't work so well on Chevy plastic. I burned a spot and warped one. Guess I'll be buying some ebay knock offs soon.

rumor has it you can use toothpaste to recondition them. I haven't tried it but plan on it soon.
I used to have HID 6000's (the bluish ones - the higher the number, the more blue but less bright they are). I really liked them from the driver's point of view - they lit the road up great, but they require ballasts and they interfered with the radio when on.

Fur the hids have ballast kits with them that go under the hood too. They really aren't worth all the trouble and expense on a vehicle that didn't come with them. Your existing housings that aren't made for them won't maximize their lighting output either.

Any of you guys ever put one of these kits on, or have any idea what the kit would consist of? This kit turns high and low beams on when the high beams are activated. I imagine it's got to have a jumper wire or something to run from one circuit to the other but an electrician, I am not. It says it doesn't increase the draw on the wiring harness. You can hold the signal handle back and all 4 lights come on. That is extremely bright and I think I'd like that all the time. Any thoughts?
Whoops, forgot to add the link to the kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/03-CHEVY-SILVERADO-High-Beam-Kit-GMC-Sierra-04-05-06-Turns-Low-Beams-Back-On-/150414782062?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2005%7CMake%3AChevrolet%7CModel%3ASilverado+1500%7CSubmodel%3ALT%7CEngine+-+Liter_Display%3A5.3L&hash=item23056b6e6e&vxp=mtr
Not sure why that's not a hotlink. Just highlight, right click and choose "go to"

So it looks like Fur already made up his mind, but I am curious now. Don't they make LED head lights that are brighter, cooler, and longer lasting than halogen or xenon? yes but not like this: like this: You can just slap a bulb in like the first picture but you will be disappointed. You need a Hugh output led which requires an ignitor and cooling fins to not over heat. A heat sync.

Not sure why that's not a hotlink. Just highlight, right click and choose "go to" What year truck are you wanting to do the 4 Hi mod on? There are DIY instructions on GM-Trucks.com. Found a 99-02 write up and I know there's a write up for the newer ones also. No need to order the parts, when you probably have them right there in your shop

2005. I will look for the write up. I didn't figure it had any relays or the like. Actually, I don't know if I'd need to do anything except disconnect the "off" wire from the low beam light. The kit has fuses and such, so I'm sure there is more to it than I know... but I will look for the write up.

I found a write up for doing a 2003-2007 chevy avalanche. I wonder if it would be the same? Probably not. Looks like the parts would cost about $5.
