Ok...I have either a dumb question or a brilliant idea....here goes:
What if you put a bunch of foam or something soft under the nest (if I remember correctly, it is only 4-5 feet off the ground.). Think ninja mode. No lights, tippy toeing. Assuming you get this part done....could you not cut the limb that the nest is attached to off of the tree, let the nest fall onto said foam, and run like hell (not in that order)...
So, the question is, will the hornets still stay in a nest that is laying on the ground or will they go find a new home?

I got a little pre-attack video last night tha I'll post tonight.
Looks like it may be tomorrow night before I can get back over there with Plan B. One thing is for certain....there ain't gonna be no damn Tractor Beam from here out.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I'm merely offering a suggestion, since he is obviously willing to get that close to them to get the nest. If it was me, I would take the torch that mounts on the back of a ATV that we have (somewhere) to burn vegetation off of barbwire fence and torch their little Satanic asses

why dont you have your buddies reverse wrap your whole body in gorilla brand duct tape so the sticky side is out and repeat last night but instead of running away just stand there with the tractor beam and let all those bastards stick to you and then let your buddies spray you with the hornet spray? problem solved
