Been shaving with a DE razor and using the shaving soap/cream with a brush for about a year now and just love it. Been thinking about getting a straight razor and giving it a try.

My experience with the de was painful. Now i didnt have a variety pack or anything. After that started dry shaving with disposable. That was 16 years ago. Still dry shave to this day. Basically to clean my neck line up. I didnt have to shave for like two weeks when i shaved my whole face with the de. Probably cause it ripped the hair out to the root. Thats what it felt like anyway

I don't get the $30 razor thing: I buy a bag of bic razors ~$6 for a dozen of 18. That bag lasts me about a year. I keep one next to the sink, and one in the shower. I shave in the shower with the water running on my face. Then hit any high spots in front of the mirror with the other razor before I dry my face.
Never have any problems. You must have kitten fur for a beard. I have tried those and the whiskers just laughed and said "Really?" Speaking of kittens....that is a kitten of a avatar...

I use the feather blades and like them.. I want to try the derby.. it does take some time to get use to. I have to make 3 passes to get the closest shave.

It's a fad. In a year or two, most will be back to disposables.

I tried several different blades thanks to a member here and settled on the Astra Platinum blades. The Feathers were great too but I got double the Astra blades for less money. 100 blades for $12. I am getting almost a week out of a blade. I shouldn't have to buy blades for almost 2 yrs. The Astra platinum's are my favorite also. The only thing i need to figure out is what I can use to put the used blades in. I worry about my boy finding a used one and playing with it.

A dozen of 18??? LOL!
Don't confuse my user name with any sort of alphabet faggotry.
It only stands for drag racing, and Route 66 was my home track back in the day.

I use a Parker 99R safety razor and Shark blades. As others have said, they take getting used to...there's a learning curve, and until you've gotten used to it, expect to bleed some! The learning curve mostly consists of learning to slow down, some, and let the weight of the razor do the work.
The Shark blades I use are also $12/100 on Amazon, and the Personna blades get good reviews, too. I was surprised at the variety of options you have, not only in the aggressiveness of the razor, but also in sharpness of the blades. Most agree that the Feather and the "Israeli Personnas" are the sharpest, but a lot of people won't use them for that reason...too sharp! Astras are Russian made, Personna and Wilkinson Sword are US made, etc etc etc...
Well behaved women never make history.~ Out back Quit laughing...I think I broke something.

I have OCD and ADD, so everything has to be perfect, but only for a minute.

I like the wilkinson swords. That's what I use - Got 120 blades for $16.00 One blade lasts about two weeks. I use the big Barbasol cans of shaving cream. Started with the DEs about a year ago. Not going back to the cartridge stuff. They were getting stupid expensive. I started shaving with DEs about fifty years ago so its nothing new for me.

I like the pawn stars razor. Lets face it. he s really responsible for bringing it back. Nah, I think it was on the upswing and he just jumped on the marketing bandwagon.
