Anyone know of some public land in north alabama that won't be covered up by hunters during rifle season. My dad may come out to hunt from New Mexico and I'd love to get him on his first whitetail. Any help appreciated. He took me on my first hunt. I want to take him on his first whitetail hunt. Thanks.

Good luck with that. I hunted Martin Skyline last year. I went so deep in there one morning that I thought for sure no one would be around. Wrong!!! Just before daylight, had another hunter start setting up 20 yards from me. I'm not going to tell you what I did, but I'm pretty sure he had to go back home and change pants.

Of all the things I've ever lost, I think I miss my mind the most.

Public land hunting in Alabama is not easy. Expect to see other hunters in the woods. That's just how it is.

I'm just hoping not to step on anyones toes and for him to enjoy it. I've considered Wheeler and letting him use my crossbow. I thought Bankhead or Skyline would be pretty good options. I have heard that they both can be pretty busy.

They're all gonna be busy around dusk and dawn. Wait for the morning crowd to leave and go for mid-day hunt. After the crush of people and pressure leaves, some deer will start to come out again. During your mid-day hunt, find a good ambush spot off the beaten path, then set up there. Once the crowd returns the deer can very easily get pushed in your direction.

i can drive for miles in skyline and not see a car sometimes. just don't hunt where you see cars and don't be the first one there. Any greenfield is gonna get crowded. deer don't always go to landmarks but hunters do. I've found that if the spot has a parking lot to expect other hunters. if you get bumped don't worry about it, You don't always get a deer everytime you go hunting.

Well I appreciate that. I'll let you know for sure soon. He's gonna give me a list of dates he has available. I'd be willing to pay something (money is tight) or split the meat with you.

If you scout it right and antipate where people come in from the most and plan around that makes for a better hunt. I've hunted public dirt in North Alabama all my life and see more deer on hunts with high numbers of hunters in the woods.
Reminds me back in the day when the only time you could harvest a doe with a firearm was on wma primative weapon hunts. People everywhere some of the best hunts I ever had.
