For those of you that use chains on your lock ons and ladders, what kind do you use? I've always used two or three fresh ratchet straps on em, but I'm wanting to swap over to a chain for the main anchor and then maybe a ratchet if it still needs stabilizing. I'd like to know what the chain needs to be rated for weight wise and what it needs to be made out of. Also where to buy it at, if anyone could help I'd appreciate it.

I use 3/16" or 1/4" chain on both loc-ons and ladders. I use large S hooks (5/16 or 3/8") on the loc-ons to connect the chain. I use a S hook on one side of the ladders and a turnbuckle on the other. I still use ratchet straps on top and bottom of loc-ons. I just buy the chains, hooks and turnbuckles at the hardware store on Home Depot.

I always use a screw-in step behind the tree and hook the chain over it (I use the chain that comes with the loc-on), but I then use a ratchet strap on top and bottom to snug it up to the tree. A loc-on without ratchet straps (using chain only) is a death trap.

Yep, hang the chain over a limb, if no limb screw in a step or drive a 8" spike.

I keep forgetting my keys when I go to move a stand so once I shot the last lock off, I quit locking them from then on.

If possible, I try to use a T-screw on all my lock-on's with 2 ratchet straps (top/bottom). Even with the chains, I always use ratchet straps for stabilization and security.

I prefer the chain ones...but if using ratchet straps I always buy the heavier weight ones.... Peace of mind...even when wearing the belt...

I order the heavy-weight strap from Ol Man to go on all my stands - and modify if needed to attach them to the stands. Can't believe what most stand makers send to attach the stands to the tree... it's a wonder some haven't been sued about it.
