So my anniversary of 8 years is on sunday and the wife wants to go out to a nice place and have supper. I was just wondering if anyone would like to make a suggestion. We are thinking about The Chophouse. As far as price if its in the $150 range thats not a big deal. Anything over that and it better be the best thing I have ever eaten. We had Grill 29 in Huntsville last year and loved it so a place like that is what we are looking for.

Vintage Year/ Chophouse is an excellent choice. Jubilee is great, too. City Grille and The Pub are other decent choices. There are newer, more trendy choices like Central and La Jolla but I think they are average and overrated.

My wife and I ate at the pub the other weekend and there is no doubt to me it is the best restaurant in Montgomery. Lajolla has moved from eastchase to the pepper tree shopping center in the old city grill location. Also the pub is closed on Sundays.

There is a restaurant across from the Renaissance in Montgomery called "Central". That's some of the best eating I personally have ever had. Try the amberjack or the grilled duck breast!
Here's the address: 129 Coosa St Montgomery, AL 36104

I like City Grill out in Hampsted. Damn fine ribeye and the steak fries are the best in this country. You will drop a bill but it's worth it. Ask for Mike to be your server.
Chop House at Vintage Year is good too.
Central is very good but the bar service can be spotty. Took me 20 minutes to get a drink. Some nights they are spot on and it's wonderful. Afterwards, you can also walk across the street and listen to some music outside at The Renaissance Hotel after dinner.

The original chef is back at Central and the food is excellent. I have eaten at ChopHouse several times as well as La Jolla in Eastchase and quite honestly, I have never left either and said WOW that was a great meal for fair price. Both are highly overpriced in my opinion for the caliber of food served.
One that you might overlook is Sa Saz, Italian, in the alley. They always have two specials that aren't on the menu which one is usually a fish and the other beef. Both specials are excellent, as good as you will get at any high end place. The specials are usually around $40 per plate.
You might want to think about taking her Springhouse up at Lake Martin too. From Millbrook that not that far of a ride. Great food and atmosphere.
