Is this a DIY project or would it be best done by a professional? If so, someone recommend a gunsmith in south Alabama and a reasonable price for such work.

Their is accura glass bedding , and their is Devcon. Anyone own here can waych a video or talk to a friend that beds lots of rifles and can do accura glass! Now Devcon, if YOU dont know what your doing you will have to grind out IF you make a mistake. Accura glass can be bought as a kit from = Brownell, Midsouth, midway, and many many more places. Basicly if you can mix two ingrediatns together , ready instuction, and tell time you can glass bed a stock. Its real simple.

How much will bedding improve accuracy? Is it more important than floating the barrel?

Michael does good work and is a very trust worthy guy. He was shoot long range competitions at one time, I'm sure he would be glad to talk over what could be done to improve the accuracy of your rifle. Be better to contact to him sooner than later he gets real busy before season.

Its depends on the gun. If you bed a gun with a bad barrel it may or may not help. Every gun is different. Bedding and Free floating a barrel is a cure all. Sometimes you just get a bad barrel. But bedding can only help accuracy, and no hurt it. You can buy a Accura glass bed kit and do 3 rifles. The cost should be around 30 bucks plus shipping. Devon is about 50 a can a will bed lots of rifles,BUT if you dont know how to use it be careful.

My new model 7 is shooting 1.5 moa with 3 different ammos that I have tried. I have yet to try afifferent grain, so that may be the cure. Im curious about the glass bedding.

A professional bed and free float job should include bedding the first couple inches of the barrel. So, whatever you might have read above keep that in mind.

I would suggest trying handloads first if that has not already been done.

Amateur bedding jobs probably won't hurt anything but floating a sporter weight barrel could make things worse if it didn't come from the factory that way, i.e. old Remingtons that had a pressure pad out on the end of the stock...

Just depends on the gun. What kind of gun is it?

A poor bedding job can negatively effect accuracy by intoducing stress into the action when screws are torqued.

Rem 700 Sendero that I recently put a B&C Medalist on. The barrel needs free floating it is touching in a spot but haven't had time to work on it. I'm thinking going the professional route to make sure it is done correctly.

I would take a wooden dowel and sand paper to the stock to get it free floated. The only other thing I would do is bed the recoil lug.

This would be my suggestion. You need to free float the barrel on that gun.

Here is a decent writeup on how to bed an action.

I think very highly of Michael as both a person and a gunsmith, I think you can save time, money, and heartache by talking to him before you pursue other options.

Guys, I am not trying to put anyones gun smith out of work but, glass bedding and free floating IS NOT a difficult job for ANY of you guys to do. Read the article Goatkiller posted, or watch a YOUTUBE glass bedding video. Its NOT hard to do. It will cost you less than 40 bucks to do it yourself AND if you mess it up just peel the bedding off and start again! thumbup
