Kind if a spin off from the 223 for deer argument. Where do you all place your shots and why? Do you aim for a different vital when shooting different calibers? I was always told to aim just behind the front shoulders. Thoughts?

As close to the front shoulder, without hitting it. I do this with bow or rifle.

I shoot a .270 Browning A-Bolt or .270 Remington 700
Depending on the stand or the deer for me...as stated earlier, I like the neck shot placement. Most of the does killed this year were shot in the noggin and two out of three bucks I shot this year off our property were neck shot. Love to save all the meat I can! Was always told to shoot behind the shoulder but to me, it's the shot you are most comfortable with.

Standing broadside, taking out that front shoulder. Not much meat on them things anyway. Did a neck shot on a Doe last year. Dropped so fast I wasn't sure if I had missed. With Bow, always behind the shoulder.
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Seems like the neck shot is pretty popular. I myself have never tried one. Might have to give it try this season.

Depends on the angle. I'll take whatever I can get. Some places I hunt don't allow you to wait on a perfect angle. If I have time in the crease of the front shoulder broadside is what I like. If they don't drop there will be a trail of blood anybody could follow.

With a gun I almost always shoot the front shoulder or the point where the neck meets the shoulder.
With a bow, I'm shooting at vitals so I shoot behind the shoulder if it's a broadside shot and shoot at the opposite shoulder if the deer is quartering away. I don't like a shot where a deer is quartering to me.

Rifle greater than 243, take out the shoulder. 243 or bow, in the crease behind the shoulder.

I must say while some of mine aren't pretty, they get the job done. Haven't lost one that I have hit in over 15yrs.
