I was looking into joining a Club in this area. Was wondering how the deer hunting was this year.

There are still some good pockets. 15 years ago Camp Hill was rockin', but (with a few exceptions), it's just pretty average land now. It'll be typical Chambers Co land too, lots of does and not many large bucks. But even the doe numbers aren't very high now. I guess I'm just saying it doesn't have the density it used to. We leased land in "Booger Hollow" for a while, and it was very good. You could ride around at night and see 100 deer, or sometimes many more than that. Now it ain't like that, not even close.

ikillbux is 100% correct. The area from Camp Hill to Booger Hollow/Dadeville has a very low deer density. You can see deer every hunt, but might only see 1 to 4. There are a few good bucks though, just not many deer compared to the blackbelt or other parts of Alabama. If you are used to seeing 10 or 15 deer a day, it's going to take some getting used to.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid of that.I'm from Auburn and been hunting close to Troy, and looking for somewhere a little closer to home.

This was my 6th season hunting Camp Hill. On Hwy 50 on the Chambers/Tallapoosa line. Sightings wise this was by far our best yearand this is a heavily hunted area with a couple law breaking dog clubs close by. This is the first year we actually had a mid/late January rut and it was awesome! The previous years the rut always started around the 30th. This area does produce some BIG deer but it's hard when there are several "if it's brown it's down" clubs close by.

Probably not as good as Troy. I've hunted that area and I'd say it is average -real average.

How is a 16" inside spread 3.5 yro on your trophy scale?

It don't often get better than that.

The area I hunt has got slow the last five years. 2 of us hunt a small 200 acres and may go all season and see one or two small rack bucks and a handful of does. lots of big shooters on camera early season We have brown and down next to us as well, lots of pressure. I am not used to seeing large amounts of deer lately. Its not what it use to be 10 years ago. I have a five year old that like to hunt with me now, long way for afternoon hunt and not see deer.

I used to hunt in Chambers County off of CR 2 between Camp Hill and Waverly. It was the best property I've ever been on, but that was 15 years ago. I hear things have changed in that area since then.

And heads up, there used to be a guy around there who claimed to be some sort of liason between you and a land owner, but I put two+two together that he was a scoundrel who was just sub-leasing the land. He'd lease you land for deer hunting, but have another group who rabbit hunted it simultaneously (for example). Plus, he would personally hunt any of your land any time he felt like it. Never did fall for his crap, but at one time it seemed like every tract I called about in that area, this same dude was the contact.

Ikillbux is spot on. I'm not the kind of person that normally speaks poor of others, however, I encountered the biggest crook I've ever encountered in the Camp Hill area. If his mouth was moving, he was lying. It made it even worse that he was always talking about teaching Sunday School. Apparently he had been pulling these shenanigans for years. If anyone wants more specifics on this individual, feel free to send me a P.M.

I've been hunting a 160 acre property in Roxana for almost 10 years. Very close to Camp Hill. Our deer density is extremely low. We have 2 of us that hunt on average 2.5 days per week for the entire season in a variety of locations. Our sightings are VERY low. We killed 3 does and 2 bucks this season. Our largest sighting at the beginning of the season was 9 deer (3 does and 4 yearlings).

I went 19-20 times without seeing anything! And this is with planting some green fields, cutting lanes in bedding areas, etc...trying to increase our chances of seeing more.

To that end, I'm planning to leave that area and move to an area in Macon County simply to increase my chances of sightings, which will give me opportunities to decide whether I want to shoot or not to shoot.

Marshall123, if the place is cheap, and low pressure, don't let our input sway you away from a place close to the house. I just know, that compared to Macon and Russell county where I grew up hunting that area of AL is a different world. AU .30-06 is right, it doesn't matter how good a hunter you are, how much you hunt the wind, or what habitat you got, there just aren't many deer on that side of hwy280, and it is absolutely possible to go 6,8, 10 straight hunts without seeing a deer.

I know exactly who you are referring to! This guy tried his best to swindle my uncle in to "joining" our land with his and create a large hunting club! I'm glad that my uncle saw through the BS!

In other words, we didn't have a very good year on our lease. Too many "Renegades" in the area!

Thanks for all the information. Let me know if anyone knows of any clubs south of Auburn, that may have openings for 2015/16 season.

Does this guy y'all are talking about last name start with an A and end with a K. If so, he almost got me as well.

Our land in Dudleyville has a very good population. We don't have many sits without deer sightings.

I have Hawgwild's old lease. The fellow yall mention has several leases surrounding us. Never met the fella but never heard anyone say anything good about him and have had several conversations where his name came up. I guess his deer clubs have too many members on too little land as we've caught them hunting on our green fields 2 years in a row. Both times were random Monday's and made us wonder how often the poaching was taking place.
