I have people tell me all the time that you can't catch hogs in the same trap in the same location. They say you have to move the trap.

I say BS!!!!!

In the past two weeks we have caught multiple times in the same traps.

One trap caught 3 times in 4 days. 25 pigs total
Another trap caught 3 times in 5 days. 30 pigs total
And another trap caught twice in two nights. 27 pigs total

Never noticed a problem, either.
A good location is simply that.....a good location!

After a while, some of the older, smarter hogs will avoid it. But, in times of plenty, they should continue to catch.

You remember the guy in Camden I told you about with the weighted doors? Heck, his traps were built permanent and he caught as many as anybody I have ever known!!!

The blood is not the problem many think it is. Unless there is just so much that it attracts buzzards and they crap on everything.

The trick is to get the hogs shot and out of the trap ASAP. Hogs don't eat where they crap. If you will use a shovel and bucket and get all the crap up, you can catch in the same night.

We had a catch the other night at about 6PM. Got them shot and out quickly and had pigs in there again just after 8PM.

If the playbook is followed, the system will catch like crazy.

Agree.. we use the same traps over and over with very good results.. Some traps do better than others simply due to location.

so why do pigs in a stock yard continue to eat where others have pooped?

Well, if pigs were as smart as you they would poop on one side and eat on another.

I've never done this because it makes no sense. I started trapping 3 years ago and my traps have never moved and I've caught pigs with poop in the trap.

I'd love to see the research that supports this....Hogs will eat each other's s***. Period. I have caught a train load of hogs in traps that others have s*** in. Please don't drink the kool-aid..............

I guess I should adjust my statement. Hogs don't like to eat where they poop. They will do it but normally the poop will have to decay a lot before they will. To have repeat catches in a trap over a short period of time, get the pigs out fast and clean up the trap.

If you guys want to prove your point, I will make any of you a challenge. Let's put up two feeders 25 yards apart and prebait. Once we get hogs hammering both locations, we will both erect a trap. For you that think poop doesn't matter, you add 5 lbs of fresh pig poop and corn all over your trap floor and mine will be clean and corn only. We will then see who is full of it.

Any takers?

If you took two steaks from Peter Lugers steak house and dipped one in feces and one off the grill, which one would you eat. As typical, you changed the question to satisfy your answer.

But the real question is how many? And many would you have caught if you didn't have poop in the trap?

I call horse ( or pig) shat on this. Pigs don't care what shat or how much. I ain't out to start a fight but after close 40 years of pig trappin for fun and for a living at times I have to say you don't know half what you think you do about hogs and proudly should stick to impressing folks who Dont have a hell of a lot more experience on the subject. I really ain't seen nothing in you're post that means much more than the average pig shat. Pigs will root through anything between them and food

I'm done. Bring on the damn ban stick it's been awhile

I will admit I don't know everything about trapping hogs. I am learning more everyday. But, I do believe that a hog PREFERS to eat where there is no hog shat. Not saying they won't do it but they prefer not to do so.

I sell hog traps and I trap hogs. My goal is to catch as many as I can in the shortest period of time. And I do so by getting my hogs shot and out of the trap as fast as I can. This reduces the amount of shat in the trap. I also clean up any shat that I see in the trap. This shat ALWAYS is normally located in an area of the trap. This area is around the outside edge. NEVER under the feeder.

When I prebait an area, I NEVER see hog shat under the feeder. I see lots on trails leading to the feeder but still 50 yards or so away from the feeder.

Just noticing their preferences along leads me to my conclusions.

So to be the most effective and efficient trapping I can be I will cater to their preferences.

it doesn't matter. But hey, you can't sell at useless $2500 trap unless you make up a bunch of SHAT.
