Isn't Owen Walton the guy from the early 80's who claimed to have show that state record buck, only to find out he had the rack "built"? Seems like there was an article in Alabama GAme and Fish on it, before it was found to be a phony. I had that issue of AGF when I was a teen.

last i read the buck was thought to have been stolen from a Ga. buck show . they never got to check it because he had sold it to a unnamed collector . thats the last i read .

It was a set of sheds from GA. Walton basically stole, and mounted them. The real owner saw them at a deer show and "s**t hit the fan".

I remember that too. Didn't he use some sheds from a buck in Ohio and the farmer that found them had them scored and that's how he was busted? The sheds were bought at a yard sale I think?

Don't think so, from GA as I remember. He talked the guy that found them into loaning them to him for display in his booth at hunting shows. Think he told the real owner they were stolen. Then they showed up on a deer he supposedly killed last light on the last day of season. Nobody ever saw the deer fresh after the alleged kill, just the mounted version.

I have CRS (can't remember shiet) but I think it was around 84. The way I remember with my CRS was he got the sheds from a guy in Ga. to take to a deer show. Told the guy they were stolen. 2-3 years later mounted the sheds on a form and passed it off as his kill. When the heat got on him he said he sold it to an unknown buyer. Rumor had it he buried it.
