Started target practice at 4:30 this afternoon in Clayton. One dummy attached a stand directly to the concrete power pole on the new power line.

Those Florida hunters you are cussing paid $300 for a license, bought gas, groceries, probably visited a restaurant or two and had a positive effect on the economy of Alabama. Nobody down here cussed the million of dollars Alabamans spend at our beaches, restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, etc.... cuz the help support our economy.
Yep some people are stupid but I'll be damned if I'll cuss a tourist. Part of my livelihood depends on tourists from Alabama and the rest of the country. I like to send em home with an ice chest full of fish and big smiles on their faces.
I know how it is to think your hunt ruined by target shooters, but in reality it doesn't have any impact at all. No more than a loud, obnoxious truck barreling through the woods just before daylight headed to a stand.

I used to get in a twist when I hunted this particular power line cut and target practice would start up less than a mile away. One day my son and I were watching 5 does on a green field on the next property to the north. Sure enough, the pistols started popping but you know what, not one of those deer even looked that way they just kept eating for another 20 minutes or so and didn't leave until a helicopter flew over and even then they didn't run for their lives, they just moseyed off into the woods.

About 3 weeks ago my son shot a button head (thought it was a doe). There was a spike with it who didn't even raise his head when the shot went off. For the next 30 minutes or so the spike just wandered around in circles looking at the downed buttonhead trying to figure out what was going on. After 30 min or so 2 does showed up, I shot one and both of the does bolted into a 5 yr old cutover (I recovered my doe). Guess who's still standing in the field without the good sense to run? Now I understand it was a spike and it's a wonder any of them survive at all but the two does showed up within 30 min of the first shot which means they probably weren't too terribly far away. I don't think target practice nearby necessarily means the hunt is over.

Dirt bikes on the other hand are a different story.

I hunt close to a big creek where a bunch of guys duck hunt. They will be blasting Ducks & I'll be watching deer. It don't bother the ones I'm watching at all.

It bothers people WAY more than it bothers the deer.

Yall are missing the point. Putting the stand on the concrete power pole is what ruined his hunt. Sorry sons of guns.

Nothing against FL hunters, but this thread reminded me of some I saw last week. I was in Gander Mtn, and this couple all decked out in camo stopped to ask me where they could find corn...they just drove up from FL. Thought it was funny

Lol

I'm no longer a OOS hunter in Alabama even though I have property up there. It always struck me as odd that people bitch about OOS hunters but these same folks have no problem hunting and/or fishing OOS, LOL. Never understood that kind of thinking. Maybe cuz it doesn't make a lick of sense!

You've got good and bad from everywhere. I had a lease in north Pike county that had about 1/2 FL hunters and 1/2 Bama boys. We didn't corn on our lease at all, but the locals all around us were apparently corning, because we often killed deer coming from their lease in the morning after feeding on their corn all night. When we cleaned them we often found corn in their belly. Also had trouble with locals poaching from the roads and trespassing as well. But I didn't cuss and label all locals with the same broad stroke. Also had a local break into our camp and steal some stuff, but not all Alabamians are thieves. I can guarantee you there are just as many locals illegally corning, trespassing, stealing, and other stupid and illegal activities as there are FL hunters. If it wasn't for the FL hunters many clubs would fold for lack of membership. Just sayin...

Yep, they are way more weary of 4 wheelers and loud vehicles than they are gun shots from my experience.

If you haven't killed any deer, I bet it is their fault! Quit bitchin and moaning and just enjoy being able to still be in the woods.

The world needs more people holding deer in pictures, and less people holding cameras in front of mirrors.
