I had four does cruise past me today there, gave them a pass hoping to see a trailing buck ... Notta. I won't be so nice tomorrow

I was wondering about that. I'll shoot her tomorrow and let her lie. Thanks

And sometimes they don't pay any attention. Last year my son and I killed 2 of 3 does that came out.

About 5 minutes later this buck came slipping in and proceeded to get shot in the neck by my son. Granted this wasn't a wise, Jackson County mountain buck, but I have seen it happen more than once.

The boom don't bother them at all from what I have seen they just look around and then back to business as usual.

I'm not saying it eliminates your chances, I'm saying it doesn't help. How many mature public land bucks have you seen come waltzing in right after your shot? I've seen deer run like hell when a twig snaps, and I've seen them stand there and go back to eating after you shoot their buddy. We can't predict what they will do, but we know that a good percentage of the time, run like hell is a probable option.

I have seen it go both ways.

I killed a pretty decent 8 pointer (Pretty decent for Choccolocca that is) less than 2 minutes after I dropped a doe. I saw him run off a little ways after I shot her, and then he came right back in like he was on a leash. The doe that I shot didn't act like a hot doe, but apparently one that she was traveling with must have been.

On another hunt in Russell county , I thought the rut was pretty much done for the year so I busted my second doe of the day. It was past the middle of December. (The breeding season was really early in that part of the county.) As soon as I shot, the woods exploded with 3 bucks running off. Two of them were shooters and the only one that returned was a 3 pointer. Even he didn't return until 20 minutes later.

I had 2 does walk through and waited on the buck too. I dont like taking my chances on the loud boom either, especially during rut. But it doesnt seem like their chasing, i didnt see any scrapes anywhere either.
