5Hart can school u on that. I really don't think there is a "good" option other than that.

I think hevi may have made a 16g load.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

My dad gave me a win. Model 12 16ga. If I could find the ole rem peters 6s (black shells. I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with them. That lil gun and those shells were a deadly combo for ducks and geese back in the day.

Marsh, killed my first with a single shot 16 with rem peters #6s in 1975.

I pulled a many long shots with those shells. I don't know what is was but no other shell would shoot as good as those. I would give anything to have a few boxes today.

I killed a 16ga Grand Slam and a few more using Nitros, Heavy Shot and finally TSS. If you don't have the ability to load TSS, then I would suggest Hevi-Shot.

http://www.hevishot.com/catalog/hevi-shot-duck/

Concerning a choke tube, William at Sumtoy built mine. I killed one bird at 50 yards in MT using Hevi Shot out of my 870 16ga.

Pattern your gun and I think you will be surprised.

Used a browning sweet 16 for a few years when I was in my early teens,I killed two turkeys one year using Winchester 6's but can't remember if they were 3" or 2 3/4" shells, anyway I killed one at 42 steps and the other at 47 steps graveyard dead, that old gun would shoot

I wasn't sure because that was over 20 years ago,16's were all 2 3/4" except for a few,After some research there were some 3" 16's made but all were special order guns, very very rare and very few out there

Hart what payload did you end up with for the TSS load.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

1 7/8oz of TSS. I sent two different sets of samples them to the lab and both were slightly over pressure (I'd imagine a lot less than Nitros). At the suggestion of the folks at the lab, I dropped 3 grains of Lil' Gun (6 from where I originally started) and produced some fine patterns. I'll get back to loading next month and I'll send a few more to the lab to make sure the recipe is under pressure before I share with other 16ga folks.

That 16 ga is just a pleasure to shoot and the felt recoil in my 870 feels less than that of my 20ga 870.

Nice that should be plenty of payload with tss.
