don't get the wrong idea there is good hunting around here. but its like anywhere else its about location. the club im in has some deer on it. just no real woods but the surrounding area has plenty so until the acorns and briars are gone they don't really come to our club fields and such. Columbus and west point has few clubs more private land and public land. there is good hunting in Monroe county toward Aberdeen and Hamilton but I live near state line so pickens/lamar county is just more convenient. plus ive come to point where I like to get couple does for meat first of bow season then im hunting wallhangers from then on and the closer you get towards the soybean and corn fields the bigger bucks get. pickens al/ Noxubee county ms. but from my experience its near impossible to find openings around those areas because of that.

I know what you mean I would love to hunt around those soybean/cornfields or for that matter just somewhere that is not 99% pine trees but from what I understand that area is almost all private and pretty much locked down. Good luck on your search hope you find a good place.
If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

looking for a lease or nice club with good management program. mainly a bowhunter so looking for big hardwoods is a plus. have a 5 year old daughter and wife that are getting into hunting this year with me and the club im in now doesn't haveabig deer population. so im looking to cross state lines would really like southern pickens county simply because I live in ms near state line. would consider clubs in lamar county also. any input really would be appreciated. I am in the same boat as you. Would love to find a club in that area that has some good hardwoods for bowhunting and some greenfields that I could take my daughters hunting over. But like another poster said, good hunting land is locked up in Pickens county unless you have good contacts or big money and usually it takes both. I know because I grew up there. The only clubs publicly looking for members in Pickens are those timber company land clubs where all there are are pine trees.

Aberdeen used to be infested with deer. I'm not sure how it is now, I haven't hunted there since I was a kid.
