I just had to tell everyone my story about my hunt today ...... so me and a friend go to hunt the part a side of skyline on round mountain we get to the gate a 4 am and start walking up the mountain we take our time as to not get too hot so we are taking a break about halfway up and we see 4 wheeler lights coming off rutledge point and my friend says i hope they dont come over here ( he jinxed us ) about 5 min later we look back and see 2 sets of lights and another 5 min go by and there is another 2 sets of lights and im thinking to myself this isnt good cause i have seen four wheelers on top of the mountain before(if anybody on here knows how to get from rutledge point to round mountain id appreciate the info or someone to show me) well right as we get to where we are going to hunt a 4 wheeler drives by and about 5 min later 2 side by sides pull up and stop and then one drives off so my friend gets in his stand and then i go to mine about 9 o clock i hear something behind me and its not squirrels so im like im finally going to see some deer ...it keeps getting closer and closer and then i turn and see another hunter and laugh to myself cause there is someone else crazy enough to walk up the mountain besides me .... i whistle at him and we talk for a couple of min it was the first time i had run into another hunter that was nice about it ... he was like me and was wondering how the 4 wheelers got over there cause he (and myself)thought we had found a place to hunt that u had to walk in...... and if he chimes in on this thread he can tell u about what happened to him also..... so is there anywhere on skyline that u cant access with a 4 wheeler and is the majority of the deer up there nocturnal i put some cameras out and every single pic is at night i know people see some during shooting hrs cause i have but its unreal at the pics of deer at night vs daytime sightings im sure the deer have patterned the hunters and when they hear the atvs coming they hide out thanks for taking the time to read this and any and all help will be greatly appreciated thanks

Dang. Tough breaks. I hunt Skyline too. It's frustrating. I got a doe up there last year. We are on terrific sign but few deer show in daylight.

I forget which side is which. I'm hunting the trophy side where bucks have to have 4 pts on a side to be legal. I let one get away 730 opening day. Beating myself up over that a little now. We are walking in but nothing like you're talking about. Hadn't seen a ton of people but there were more in our general area today than we've been seeing. Folks off for holidays and wanting to hunt I guess. I'm not sure I know where Rutledge Point is.

Rutledge Point and Round Knob were part of my club when we had that leased. We didnt see jack on those mountains when there were only a few of us in a club hunting it. With all of that pressure...I would recommend going elsewhere. Those were the hardest two mountains to see deer on that I've ever hunted in 25+ years of hunting mountain deer. I think it was because that club hammered does way, way too hard for the amount of acreage we had for way too many years. That place sucked and In a way....I'm glad we lost our part so I would go elsewhere. We hunted zone B this morning and saw quite a few deer and very few people.

I know how to get from Rutledge point to round knob and back to Rutledge point and back to round knob....it's called chitarse Houdini gobbler. There is a main road that comes off Rutledge to get where you want to go....take 138 south and take the third and fourth main roads to the right and both will get you there.

I was on the south side of Zone A this afternoon and you could not swing a dead cat without hitting a four-wheeler. So I went to the north side of Zone A and it sound like all the class 3 people were at the range until about 4:30pm.

you can only legally use a 4 wheeler on the roads you can drive a car on. making them useless. the game warden told me that you can use them to retrieve a deer if you get one and they will look the other way as long as you come back with a deer on the back.

there anywhere on skyline that u cant access with a 4 wheeler

The last few years the yellow foot traffic only signs have been taken down on many roads. There are plenty of places that you won't have a chance of a four wheeler coming anywhere around you. It's like fishing, when you go to the community holes you are going to have company. There are places you can walk walk 300 yds from your vehicle and hunt ground that never gets hunted.

I wouldn't without expressed permission to do so. Some have said you can ask property owners, but I just don't bother. I think they have enough to deal with trespassers and poachers, that I just can't bring myself to ask.

There are several places that aren't hunted out there. It does take some time to figure out where they are tho. But, if you find em, they pay off or at least they have for me.
