I hunt here on the farm, 100 acre row crops 50/50 corn/bean fields rotated yearly. Four poultry barns with around 92,000 or so 50 day old birds going to the packing plant tomorrow night and Wednesday morning. Will have another flock of chicks 92,000-94,600 placed back in the barns in 14-18 days. Just in time for the 11 day muzzleloader season starting Dec. 20th-30th
It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

If you claim a farm when it's not an actual business with a good faith effort towards turning a profit, you'll get burned. Just sayin. Trees would fit that description, wouldn't it? Most people call their place the farm, because at one time it was planted in some type of crop.

AND THEY ARE ALWAYS SAYING "ON TONIGHTS HUNT I SAW 45 DEER" LAST I CHECKED 1 PM IS NOT NIGHT TIME That's not that strange. A lot of Alabamians refer to the afternoon as "evening". Mark Twain made a reference to it in Tom Sawyer, too. Yet I grew up understanding evening to be after 5PM, and night after 9PM. I think we're a bit inconsistent if we "harvest" deer or other game animals, yet object to someone referring to land that could potentially be farmed as a farm. Maybe it used to be a farm, but isn't anymore. Maybe it's a recreational farm for jaded Manhattanites who wish to escape the city. Who knows. But the term doesn't seem too incorrect to me. (On an unrelated note, why are you always screaming at us in ALL CAPS??)

We got our own Aldeer philosopher. And he's picking on seasoned veterans of aldeer . But to answer the original question, I call my farm my farm and I call my lease my hunting club. A lot of those "farms" you see people hunting on tv actually are farms they just lease the ground. The big personalities like the Lee and Tiff and the Kiskys own their ginormous deer havens and do farm it. If I had one of those big nice places in the Midwest and they had a feather up their butt wed both be tickled.

I hunt several different places and they all could be called "farms". Some have cattle and some are registered tree farms. That said, the only place that I refer to as "the farm" are actual farms that have cattle, fences, catch pens, etc.

AND THEY ARE ALWAYS SAYING "ON TONIGHTS HUNT I SAW 45 DEER" LAST I CHECKED 1 PM IS NOT NIGHT TIME I laughed Pea Ridge, when I saw the thread title I also thought about that same thing. Around here we get put in jail for hunting "tonight"! Tonight on the farm makes me see barns, livestock, corn fields in the dark.

Im a registered tree farm so yes my hunting land is a farm! All of you that say it has to be row crops to be a farm have obviously never been on a farm. I know a lot of farmers that don't row crop. Would you consider some one who raises livestock, or grows hay for a living a farmer. I would assume they have farms even though they aren't row cropping I would call it a cattle ranch or farm. I've worked on them as well but very little or if any woods at all that would hold deer. My buddy and I have three hundred acres that we lease out for grazing and it has the prettiest little fifty acres of hardwoods I've ever seen. It's my favorite place to hunt and the deer aren't bothered by the cows that roam threw the woods at all.

90% of what I hunt has cattle on it. X2 Some of the biggest deer we have killed has been while we were feeding heifers or moving hay. We have shooting houses all over our different locations and most of the time we have the cows shut off those pastures/woods/bottoms. Luckily we calve during the winter which means more places to hunt due to having cows in smaller sections of our land.

"Farm" is just another thing they say/do to be part of the hipster hunting crowd. "Farms", "4 year old" (instead of the more accurate 4.5 year old), "encounters", "got him on the Reconyx", Costas, Yetis, Mathews, Ozonics, Bone Collector, Rage, Sugar Beet Crush, Reconyx, Affliction T-shirts, etc. etc. etc.

Yes, I caught that. My point was that calling a time of day something that is not isn't entirely strange, since we do the same thing. Calling afternoon "night" is no worse or no better than calling it "evening". Speaking of this...am I the only one who calls pants..."britches"? The informal poll they took here at work said no one talks like that anymore. Nope, Daniel White even got him some short sleeve britches.
