I have been reading were people have been talking about custom calls. So my question is what makes it a custom call? In my opinion a custom call would be made just for me. Not by putting the slogan "custom calls" on a package and selling it to anybody for 10 dollars a call.

I think some refer to the calls that are not mass produced as being custom.



I dont know about the mouth calls, they about all have to be assembled by hand dont they.

But I am sure some pay better attention to the control of there product there others.

I pretty much think of a custom call the same way you do. I like a call that is built specifically for me and to my standards. The problem I find with just about all mass manufacturers is that they either stretch calls too tight or they use too thick of latex. These two things make calls hard to blow and they just don't sound as realistic as they could which is why I prefer to either make or have calls made the exact way I want them.

You're right... it's about the time and energy devoted to one call rather than trying to get as many out the door as is possible. Regarding guys who will make a mouth call exactly to your specs, try William Terry with Legacy calls. Last year, he made me up a few calls with a different tape than the usual. Sure he'd do the same with reeds.
