Had a first Saturday evening while tracking a doe a buddy shot.

There were 5 of us tracking this doe and only one of us had the brains enough to carry a gun. And of course, he was in the back of the pack tracking the deer. I was on lead.

After a long tracking job we finally came up on the doe. As soon as I hit it with the light I saw a big boar feeding on the deer. He instantly turn toward me and started walking fast toward me. I started hollering for the guy with the gun to come forward. All the guys ran up and the boar decided to turn away. He simply just walked off.

I will have my pistol on me all the time from now on. These dang hogs are just getting to cocky.

So, ya'll be careful out there if you are hunting in pig country.

I forgot. The deer was shot about 1.5 hours earlier and the boar had eaten the neck up big time and was then working on the hind quarters. I actually think he finished the doe off when he found/caught it.

That is insane, glad you had someone with a gun.

Question: is this typical behavior of wild hogs? Would they kill fawns?

But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?

What was the plan if the deer was still alive? I learned the hard way to always carry a gun when looking for downed deer, preferably a shotgun. Cool story though!

Ancient Chinese armies used them to dispose of enemy corpses following warfare. They are not picky eaters.

I don't think you can "legally" finish off a deer with a gun during bow season.

Interesting situation. Archery season tracking a shot deer at night. Is it even legal to carry a gun period. I would expect it is legal now to carry a side arm. I doubt it is legal to carry a long gun. Troy can help us here.

I had a friend tracking a hog after dark on a WMA. He had his gun and a light. Game Warden saw the light and came to investigate. Accused him of spotlighting. Took him back to the truck to arrest him and my friends father pulled up. Told him he came to help track a shot hog. Warden then believed the story. Warden told him to never track after dark with a gun again.

im pretty sure you the way it works is like this.
-You may carry a sidearm (if you are leagally allowed to have one that is)during bow season. Im certian anyone(especially game warden) could tell the difference between a gun shot wound and a broadhead hole. But yes you may legally have it on your person as long as its not being used to take an animal.
-No long guns are allowed to be carried with shot sizes that are suited for taking deer during bow season.Thats the thing in a nutshell..im sure there are more specifics though.

They will eat each other also if one is wounded or sick. Witnessed that a few years back on a hog hunt in north florida.
They breed very fast and do not allow weakness to remain in their groups. No wonder they are taking over.

Okay, the heck with Deer hunting, next trip to Oakmulgee I am packing the 22 rifle. I know several places where I might get a good chance at one.

So legally what are you supposed to do sit there in the dark with it until it dies?
Is there any legal way to finish a wounded deer at night gun or bow. I guess what your saying is either way it could be perceived as hunting at night
