How do you identify bedding areas? I know there is nothing that is a for sure sign that says here is where we stay. What do you start to look for? Thanks for the input

I start by looking at aerial photos of the property. I look for thick areas you can identify. A cutover pine thicket, swamp, etc. Then go in the woods to confirm. Look for trails coming out of the area. Maybe rubs on the edge of it. Droppings and tracks on the edge. If I see these things then I do not go in the area to keep my scent and disturbance out. Place a stand between the bedding area and a food source while minding the wind. Keep a good distance from the bedding area.

Ive also noticed a trend from aerial maps if you find holes in the canopy from an eighth to a quarter acre with heavy underbrush they seem to be attracted to it. But thats one of a million scenarios. IMO

That's a good question. Seems like my entire farm would provide good bedding area. I'd like to know what kind of bedding area they prefer. Tall grass with no trees, tall grass with thinned pines, young pines (5-7yo), 10-20 yo grown up cutover, thick hardwood bottoms..... These are all areas I would consider good bedding habitat. What seperates good bedding from great bedding? I've always just hunted in close proximity to feeding sources cause it seems like my deer come from every where.
