Budget and afraid of getting in late? I would plant rye grain every time.

Hope to finish up my fields this weekend.
I've planted a week before gun season and had nice fields by the end of December. Actually they were planted twice that year. We planted Memorial Day weekend which seems to be the norm around here. They came up and then no rain for a month or better.
We quit planting Memorial Day weekend after that.

We quit planting Memorial Day weekend after that. You mean Labor day, don't you? Memorial day is in May. If you meant Memorial day, then no wonder your plots failed. LOL

We are talking about re-planting some of our plots. No rain in the forecast for at least 10 days tho, so there is no need to plant any time soon. Did you have plots that have failed due to lack of moisture, or from deer hammering them?
