I ask my 8th grader if anything was said about 9/11 in school today and he said not a word. How can we keep people from forgetting if this is not talked about in school?

What do you expect a teacher to tell adolescent kids about terror and the motives of it? Put yourself in the place of a teacher with a bunch of innocent eyes looking at you. That's your job, man.

My wife showed or son videos of that day when he got in from school today. He didn't understand all of it but he wanted to know what happened. We explained it the best we could for a third grader.

This is history..... It will forever be our history.... If that's your thinking...they should quit teaching the civil war....Korean war....Vietnam war...WWI...WWII.... Hitler was pure terror....but they teach it.... Think about the massacres he was a part of..... Maybe they should just scrape all of it under the rug and not teach nothing about the past...... Ridiculous.....

Same with my 5th grader. Not a word about it.

My post speaks for itself... If history is taught in school...well then this is history... It's the schools job...man... I don't teach my kids math...geography...English lit..science..or any other classes taught in school either for that matter... That's why our tax dollars pay teachers... That's their job....man... Maybe you need to rewrite the history books the way you see fit...and sell em to public schools...

I expect them to teach that there are people in this world that hate our country and our way of life enough to come over here and try to harm innocent people just because of their twisted religious beliefs. I expect them to teach that on September 11th 2001 they succeeded in doing that. I expect them to teach that our president vowed to bring those responsible to justice and that even though it took many years and cost the lives of many more brave men and women in the U.S. military we succeeded in that goal as well.

So you EXPECT someone who makes 35k a year (working for the city) to have your child's best interest at heart? Yeah, before y'all start bashing me, I know there's teachers who really care about the kids. They stand out to every child that steps foot in their classroom. I've been in public schools and know for a fact that a majority are there for the benefits and security. Tell your kids about what happened, explain it yourself, and quit relying on someone else to do it for you. Sounds like a welfare queen expecting everybody to do something for them.

Good point... Let's just do away with the school systems.... We'll all teach our own kids.... Lay off the under paid teachers... That way the government can put that money to better use... Maybe you should run for office...since you have been able to find meaningful cuts to the budget....

It was mentioned in my 1st graders class today. She came home well informed, she said that these people do not believe in Jesus and that they do not like us because of that. Also, that they believe they will get into heaven by being mean to us.

I didn't say lay the teachers off. I didn't say shut schools down. I didn't say anything about cutting a budget. I was trying to explain that you can't expect too much from a teacher. The state is pretty much turning them into glorified baby-sitters in some schools.

The teachers that I personally know that are out age are just trying to make a paycheck. They won't let them try to teach anything anymore for fear someone will get there feelings hurt and try to sue

Whack, my kids know what happened on 9/11. History in our house is discussed all the time. I just find it weird that there would not have at least an announcement in the morning remembering the people who died.

So we're paying babysitters instead of teachers...why pay em at all then...cuz it will lead to the end result.....

And that's what I'm saying jnall, I thought you were trying to roust up the pitchforks and torches to go burn down the schoolhouses in your first post. You're right. It is weird. But it shouldn't surprise anyone that has read the news in the last 10 years. And what you do by telling your own kids what happened means you care about them enough not to rely on someone else to do it. That's all I'm trying to say.
