I have got beaten down this season and stand at 0-19. I kept getting knocked down but got up each time with a smile. From flocked up birds, to henned up birds, non gobbling birds, a pregnant wife, a dear pet I had to put down, a coworker that had surgery and shifted my off time, and last but not least my own mistakes. It's been the roughest season I've ever had.

Some stats of a broken man:

0-19

15 days hunted without hearing a gobble

1st gobble heard on April 26th

3 days private land......16 days public land including Talladega NF, Choccolocco WMA, Cahaba WMA.

An estimated 52 turkeys seen. (Can you say flocked up)

15 deer

1 coon

1 hawk attack on a decoy

0 coyotes

Too much gas money and lost sleep



But I had a dang good time doing it and watching the spring woods come alive. I am happy to have seen that one more time. I did learn a couple lessons or 5.

Congrats to all of you that killed birds, whether 1 or >10. Each one is special and I congratulate you all. Good luck to all of you still after them!


With such a poor season I don't mind a little ribbing and know I should have done better!


The only thing I can think of is The Lord blessed me with my first child due early July and I ran out of blessings with that!!!!!!

I'm right there with you except I had 3 opportunities. Seen several missed 2 running and let my buddy shoot instead of pulling the trigger. Not a bad season but I wish I had made one flop.

0-8 for me, Know where you been.. saw 6 gobblers, but I did see 26 deer

I salute you for your dedication! Some years it happens. I feel blessed to have just been able to get in the woods!

It's hard to keep on keeping on when turkeys don't act right. I missed two this year on the only real hunts I was able to get into. This is the second season in a row where I could barely hear a turkey gobble, and I go pretty frequently. You always believe that the next morning they are going to break out of the bad funk they've been in, sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Way to hang in there and congrats on the baby.

Congrats on the kid and hope everthing goes smooth till they get here. The turkey gods were good to me this year but I have felt your pain before and may next year but I'll always give it my all no matter what the results are. It's the most rewarding, most frustrating, aggravating thing I've ever done and I love every minute of it

It was tough man, this year was hard. I thought after opening morning it was gonna be on this year. I had to go to secondary spot and called in 3 birds that got to me at the same time, killed a double bearded one, had birds gobbling all morning. My best friend hunted with a buddy from the club and they called in 2 birds and doubled up and then it shut down. Got on a few birds but they wouldn't work for anything or they got with hens. But as you said, happy as ever to get to experience one more time.

Uhhhh...Nooo..Only 318 days.....

I had a good year even though It was the first year in the last 10 I haven't killed at least one bird. But I called in 2 for my dad, actually 5 cause one time there was a group of 3 that had ran together all year. I went at least 4 days a week usually 5-6 days a week. Only one day that I didn't at least hear a bird gobble. All in all it was a good year but next year I'm taking no prisoners!
