Has anyone ever hunted in Oregon? I am going there this summer and looked up what would be in season and it looks like only cougars are in season while I am there so I don't know if we will go hunting and fishing or just fishing.

My sisterinlaw lives there so yes the cougars will be out and will pounce on any male that looks like he may feed them for awhile

You need to send a pm to kodiak06--he is stationed up there with the Coast Guard. I know there is some fine fishing up there, but you either need a guide or need to read up on it--the regs are very complex--which section of which river, what species, what tackle, boat or wade, release or keep (which can vary with whether it is wild stock or hatchery release--you have to look at adipose fin clips). Be prepared for some beautiful scenery. I like it so much I just bought a house in the southwestern part. I'm moving as soon as my Birmingham house sells.

Not sure what area you will be in, but a trip to Astoria would be worth the drive. This is where the Columbia meets the Pacific and it is one of the most beautiful areas I have seen in the lower 48.

I will have to find out how far away that is from the cabin.

Oregon has every climate from desert to rainforest, so do your homework about where you are going. If you are within 100 miles of the coast, bring a raincoat and don't let the weather keep you inside. Here is a good website for checking out climate stats --you just have to scroll past a lot of demographics.

^^correct. July 30th a few years ago. Portland - High in mid 90's. Astoria - high in the low 70's and lows in the 30's.
That really made returning to Mobile more Hellish

Go fishing... OR wait until September and then go hunting. The only way to get on a cat in a short visit is to pay a guide. I called a cat in while cow calling for a buddy last year. Cool feeling when your buddy is 400yds away and your only weapon is your binos and camelback, lol.

That's the coast for sure. Usually not much rain Aug-Sep while elk hunting. In fact, we got shut down a few days for fire danger last year.
