The ATF has to tell you, in writing, why you're delayed. You have to fill out a form and pay a fee. You also need the NTN# (transaction#) of the delayed purchase. I used to have the same issue when I first got a security clearance at a nuke plant. I called 'em and raised a little Hell and my delay went away. Now I get random delays and have a higher clearance.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Wiley Coyote is correct. I have a UPIN number. Got tired of being delayed. The U S Department of Justice handles this. FBI Clarksburg WV 26306 is whats on my paper work for UPIN. Voluntary Appeal File is what you want to request paper work for. 1-887-324-6427 is the NICS service number i use to request paper work. They will tell you the reason you are delayed. Mine was name and SSN to close to others. Its a simple process. You get a reason for denial. Then you apply to VAF. Then you get a UPIN. Whole thing takes 3 to 4 weeks, or use to! You will receive ATF type finger print cards. You will have to be finger printed at local LEOs office. Send all info in and what. Since my UPIN 5 years ago i have had 0 delays. Hope this info helps you out! Since i think you got the answer to your question im gonna derail the chit outta this thread...Shooters..How come sometimes you post and its like reading chicken scratch from a 3 year old, then sometimes its spot on with no mispelled words and punctuation actually used where its suppose to be?

I've been placed on 5 day holds on my last two purchases. May take the time to get to the bottom of it but I can live the 5 days. Only problem would be if I was away somewhere and decidd to buy one. My issue was finding a decent deal at a gun show then not being able to complete the transaction and the dealer store being several hours away. I had to pass on 2 or 3 good deals because of the delay. I don't go to gun shows any more.

If i went from north alabama, to Simmons i knew i was going to get delayed, then have to come back a few days latter to pick -up my gun. UPIN number sayed me 100s of gallons of gas so far!
