Caught another swarm today. No use asking me about swarm control because I apparently just split my hives the hard way.....by cutting them out of a tree!

Dang. Are you using swarm traps? Isn't swarming rough on honey production?

EDIT: I've probably already asked you, but are you using one hive body or two?

Yes....tough on honey production and I haven't learned how to prevent it very well.

The first swarm I expect I will get some honey out of because it was huge and I also gave it a few frames of brood out of another hive so it will build up fast. Maybe that will be a little consolation.

The first swarm my daughter saw coming out of the hive so we looked around and found it in a nearby tree.

This one I was just looking at the bees and just before I left I happened to spy it in a nearby tree.

Good news is....got some healthy hives to be putting off swarms I guess.

Both of those swarms came out of a deep and a medium with a queen excluder and then another medium.

I have a few bait hives out with lemongrass oil in them but in both cases I saw the swarm and put it in a hive.

They like to swarm to the same place year after year. I have one pine tree I have cut swarms out of more than once. Today they were on a youpon bush and the limb they were on had already been cut off once where I cut one down in a previous year.

He caught them. He was lucky that a guy that was at their house riding his horse saw the swarm flying across their pasture and told him. The gathered on a limb about 10 feet up in a pine tree and he put a hive in his tractor bucket and raised it up to them. When you talk to him and he takes credit for thinking of putting the hive in the bucket, tell him you know the real story and I was the one that thought of that. laugh

My neighbor had 4 swarms leave his hives Tuesday and only got 1 back. He's only been at it for a year and still learning.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

LOL. Our buddy is a swarm waiting to happen. I did have a swarm yesterday too. My dad found it while mowing behind one of the barns. It was a foot off the ground on the ramp of a trailer. I wish they were all that easy. I don't know if it was before or after he talked to you but he had a swarm yesterday to go with the one that he had the day before. He was in GA, and I got the one he had on Thursday in a box for him.

Wiley, if you see him today ask him if he has any swarm traps out. If he doesn't know what a swarm trap is, he needs to and needs some out ASAP.
