Has the Stock been refinished? If I remember right if it was made in early 1900's and 1800's the finish is not gone that is toning due to the process that they used back then. most guns from the late 1800's turned brown like that they used nuts to finish the barrels. And like I said my memory might not be right on the finish On the barrels.

I can not tell, I know the butt plate is not original the finish looks good for the age of the gun. Do you know how I can find out the year that the gun was made? The serial # is under the barrel at the breach, but I am afraid to mess with the forearm it seems stuck, so I can not remove the barrel to be able to read the serial #. Thanks

It should pull off with a hard tug from the top of the fore arm if not take it to a gun smith. When you get the number you can google Charles daily serial numbers. I did this with a lefaver I bought a couple years ago which was real hard to find because the company had switched hands about 4 times in 20 years. Winchesters are pretty easy to find not to sure about Charles daily but would think they would be to.
