I am in a 1500 acre club in Chambers county and we have been overrun with coyotes for years. We hear them every night, we see turds with fur in them all over the place and our gut pile dumping area is quickly cleaned up as soon as we put something down. However last year our club and the 500 acre club bordering ours killed a dozen mostly female coyotes during deer season , another neighbor called and killed a few more during the spring/summer and a member on our club trapped several more. The results of removing about 25 coyotes on 2000 acres was a season of very high numbers of yearlings surviving, a much higher number of deer seen overall and in 30 hunting trips I heard coyotes howling twice. Oh yeah our gut piles went untouched. I am happy with the results and hope that staying after those bastard's can return our quality of hunting to what it has been in the past.

Good job. Trapping is the most effective method. Keep at it!

If you don't keep at it you will have them right back. You can't let up now. You may end up with more as neighboring packs try and set up new home ranges. 2 packs can end up where 1 was. Just keep at it.

Thanks I didn't realize that they would do that. We will definitely keep after them and are fortunate that other clubs around us are feed up too and are working on them.

I just bought some leg traps and plan on starting to hunt and trap them pretty hard myself. Our deer numbers seem to be down and especially fawn numbers. Around the time fawns were dropping my cameras were swamped with coyote pics. I hope we can change that this year.

You need to be focused on trapping from now until fawn drop.

I had heard that once you start trapping coyotes others in the immediate area will leave do to the pressure. Do you know if this is true?

Completely false. The trapping creates a vaccum of habitat a pack can use for territory/resources. You see some come in and take over or there may be competition over it for a while, which you don't want.

Once you start trapping they get MUCH smarter so you may not see/catch as many especially after you miss a couple and pinch some toes.

I hunt in Tallapoosa county right over the chambers line near camp hill. We've only seen two and killed them both, but hear them all the time and based on the amount of their s**t we find i think we're overrun with them.

To find out if you have a bunch put up game cams on roads, fire lanes and big trails at intersections if possible. Coyotes tend to run circuits and have a pattern. It is hard to say what their pattern is on your place but you should be able to tell after about 15 days. We saw about a 3 day circuit in our place. It helped us get a relative # and trap more effectively.

We have them pretty thick in Fayette County. Matter of fact, I'm pretty sure they are abundant just about everywhere.

Glad to hear that you are seeing positive results. These danged things reproduce so quickly that it's hard to stay ahead of them. Congrats on making a difference at your place.

To keep the under control during the season you can bury 10" pvc in the ground and dump your guts in those. The yotes will go down the pvc after the guts, but because of the pvc they can not back out and are stuck in the pvc until you "remove" them. You should have them all around your property and not use the same set all the time because they will become smart to one area, but if you move it around they will be fooled.

As with all the other wonderful, bizarre techniques (hanging hooks, sponges, etc..., I only ask - "got a picture of it where it worked"? Never seem to see the picture shocked Trapping works.

We hit it hard a few years back trapping with 24 leg traps and eliminated a little over 100 predators in a very short time.
I wish we could get more people in our lease interested in trapping.

I don't know a darn thing about trapping. How do you determine where to place the trap? Bait? If so, where to put the bait? Any and all info on trapping these dogs would be appreciated.

Per a study I can't quote but I believe that yotes can kill up to 60% of fawn pop. I believe that's right.

Predators travel edges and corridors so most people place traps at woods road intersections, field edges, and anywhere basically that may concentrate their travel. Scents are used for attractants and different types of meat for bait. Lots of good info on youtube and the internet for trapping.
