I would get it to the processor as soon as possible. Most processors would rather have the deer not quarted so that they can hang it. The deer might hang a few days to let the blood drain out.

Up to 7 days make sure you keep the ice fresh and the water drained.

I leave them on ice for 5 days or so. It's the only way to go.

Leaving them on ice ruins the meat. It's stupid to do so.

Just thought I'd get ahead of the curve and post both answers you're gonna get.

The quality of my venison improved tremendously when I quit soaking it. I debone, put in garbage bags and then put in ice chest. My meat has more flavor and better texture since I started doing this.

I soak all my beef from the grocery store for at least a week, too.

I don't soak it, but I will keep it in a cooler in a bag. I don't want the deer to touch the ice, I just want it to stay cold.

I had a Colorado warden and a local processor both tell me you Dont wanna soak your meat or leave it sitting in ice because it saoks up moisture making meat "soggy". I have never really left meat on ice other than the time it takes to drive back from Colorado. . but I can say a friend soaked and froze dove in the same water....it was pure mush....

Why destroy the flavor of the meat by soaking it in water and ice. Just get you some tofu and put what ever flavor you want on it and call it what ever you want it be. It's an wild animal and will not taste like a domestic farm raised animal.

Exactly....hang the deer if possible...that will alloe for some tenderizing...but as far as blood removal...meat has blood...and youbwont remove it. Simple fact was just pointed out....this is deer....not beef. Quit trying to make it taste like it.

I leave mine in an icy slush for 5-10 days until I have a couple hours. I process my own end to end.

I have cut up many deer that have been soaked and many more that have been hung for several days. The deer that have been soaked are much more difficult to cut up and the meat doesn't look nearly as good compared to the other deer. However I do not know how this affects taste.

Why don't y'all just make a cooler or something?
