Anybody ever seen the larvae for these in an alabama deer? I was caping a skull for a European mount last night and found 3 different larvae in the nasal passage that looked like huge maggots about 1.5 inches long. Then about 2-3 more were in the back of the sinuses near the base of the skull. I googled larvae in deer nose and the pics that came up are exactly what it was. Deer nose bot fly larvae. And a lot of sites said there's been no reported cases in Kentucky, tennessee, or alabama.

I've seen them several times.

I seen them in one I was skinning out last year. I asked a taxidermist and he said it was common.

My buds a taxidermist, i help him from time to time. We have seen them anywhere from under the skin-nasal cavity-inside the skull near the brain. Its seems to me that this could be another way for a deer to die.

An 8 pt I killed this year had them. We have seen it before, but it hadn't seen it in several years. I really don't see how the deer breath out of their nose with the larvae in it.

Likely Gasterophilus species. Pretty common find in the upper airways of deer, seen a few in the esophagus as well. What are classically known as "wolves" are species of the genus Cuterebra that burrow subcutaneously.

Pretty common. I've seen dozens of deer with them.

I find them more often than not on deer from Fayette County.

Well, that was nasty.

I'll bet those things make a big "pop" if you step on one and squirt out like a big ol' gnarly zit on your ass in August during football when it got sweaty hot during two-a-days.
