That's what I felt like this past Friday night. I have not been to my club all season but wanted to take my son hunting at least a couple times before the season went out. We got to camp, unloaded the truck, then went to eat with the guys. When I got back the heater was running in the camper but it was COLD in there. Out of propane. I had remembered everything needed to have a great trip except a bottle of propane!

Off to Springville we went. I stopped at a couple of gas stations and both were out of full bottles. They also told me Walmart was out. I called Walmart and they assured me they had propane in. They said since the garden center was closed, I'd have to come to the customer service desk.

I've never done that gas bottle swap thing before so my son and I busted up into Walmart and I was toting the empty gas bottle.

YOU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT AN AL-QAEDA OPERATIVE HAD BEEN IDENTIFIED IN THE STORE.

Good night, the lady from customer service came running over talking loudly and excitedly telling me that I had to take the gas bottle out of the store, NOW. Then another young woman came running over and then they both joined in. They were dancing around like their butts were on fire. They were chanting, "you can't bring that in here, you can't bring that in here." LOL

I asked them if they wanted me to drop it and I thought they were gonna die.

Stupid people. I did ask both of them if they were aware that they sold loaded ammo in the sporting goods department.

Buncha fruitcakes.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

They have full propane bottles inside the store also, they are just the 1 pounders, but still they have a bunch of them.

Along with coleman fuel, kerosene, and a whole bunch of flammable goodies.

I've had this happen too. It's pretty hilarious. They act like you're smoking a cigarette with a five gallon can of gasoline.

They did the propane freak out a couple of weeks ago to me when I brought an empty into Home Depot to exchange it. I don't know what they are being told but evidently it scares them to death.

Legal liability along with fear of headlines saying "Man With Bomb in MegaStore Kills, Injures 39" that would hurt their business.

Even a 2-3 day "OMG, stay away from MegaStore!" fear that is baseless but would happen in today's society would be enough for a sizable drop in revenues and a hit on Wall Street.

If it is so dangerous why do they have dozens of full tanks lined up right next to the entrance of the store? Do they only care about the people in the store and not those out on the sidewalk?

Good question. You'd think they'd have them in a cage in the middle of the parking lot with no one else able to get around them.

I've always thought it's interesting how gas stations, which have massive tanks full of fuel, sell propane tanks and will have 20-plus in a concentrated area.

I've never used any of the big stores when exchanging propane bottles. After this thread, I don't think I ever will! slap

I had this happen to me too. I explained to the store manager that if everyone was in danger because of my empty bottle that he should probably evacuate the store because in his sporting goods department there were hundreds of full small green propane bottles that are pretty close to the lantern fuel, pyrodex pellets, bullets, and sterno camp stove fuel. He looked at me like I was stupid. I did the same.

If I am not mistaken it is illegal(fed law)to return ammo.

I am lucky, I don't have as far to go as I have been!

I used to always try to have mine filed because of the price being so much cheaper but, walmart has dropped the price on a swap out, im back to using them.

There was a gas place running a special around Hollywood for a $9.99 refill. Idk if they still are. All my bottles were full and i didnt need any gas. That's the cheapest I've seen anywhere.

Wait ... Teh Walmarks has gas cans inside their buildings (some of them) but if you return one empty and walk inside with it they go cray-cray?
