My first time in a w.m.a. found a good spot on a ridge, around noon Some men started to walk the valley floor some on the slope some on the valley floor , The GW said they were pushing the deer. Any way I got off the ridge, is this done in all W.M.A.,s.

Most of the folks that do that get together and try to drive deer past some standers when they get bored during the midday. We used to carry a plastic milk jug with gravel in it-shaking it as we walked-to get deer up and moving in grown up cutover. It will work if your standers can hit a running deer.

Thought that was illegal on WMAs.

Once hunters start walking around at 8:00 they are doing the same thing. I used to have a tract that laid inside a WMA and there is no telling how many deer the hunters pushed over us just walking around looking at things. They were unaware they were making a drive right to us.

I hate it when they do it. they push thru places where other hunters are and when they jump one shoot the woods up not knowing if they are shooting towards someone as they push.

We always climbed high and wore a lot of orange. Killed a truck load of deer back in those days.

Most of the time people push clear cuts. If you are set up in a tree on the edge of one being pushed you are in a good spot. We pushed some clear cut a couple of weeks ago on cahaba. There's nothing unsafe about it. Not everyone wants to sit in a tree all day.

you don't drive around the woods , its the same as a truck no motor running just setting. or use a chair out by the edge. and they was a lot of 4 wheelers up there.

Choccolloco (sp?) wma has a handy cap section, disabled hunters can use an atv with a permit.

Southwood7 says there's nothing unsafe about it. Shooting at a running deer is not unsafe? Who taught you to hunt or handle a gun? First rule of thumb - know your target - When your target is moving how do you know what your target is? 2nd - no what is beyond your target - If your target is running how do you know what is beyond your target? - another hunter you can't see maybe in the thick cover?

Sounds unsafe to me

People have been doing man drives for as long as people have been hunting. Myself along with other people on here have been part of man drives in the past I am sure and when done right is as safe as any other kind f hunting. There have also been millions of deer killed that was moving when they were shot. Climbing 20' up a tree and sitting all day is not the only way to hunt.

If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

Are you joking? You've obviously never participated in a man drive. They are very safe when done correctly by responsible hunters. If I am walking out a clear cut where I can see for 1000 yards and you are sitting on the ground in the middle of 3' tall briars and pines with no orange on then I guess it would be unsafe for you. loco

Oh I agree drives can be safe but on a mgmt area where you have no idea where other hunters are? No way it can be safe. Shooting at a running deer is and always has been unsafe. It's called bush huntin. Shootin at moving bushes. It's a bad habit to teach a kid and a bad habit to develop and a good way to shoot somebody.

I hate to tell you dadbud over half the people on this forum have been involved in man drives and I doubt they ever saw anyone shot. Since shooting at running deer isn't safe you want shoot a buck chasing a doe since there might be someone on the other side of him. Most of the folks that are bush shooters are retarded and I've never met one. My first buck was on a man drive and no one got shot as I sent 4 100 grain core lokts at his arse. slap
