had a bunch of does come under me this morning out of a thicket that i had my back to. they stop about 30yds in front of me and turn around. a few seconds later i hear a buck running and grunting (behind me) but i'm in a stare down with one of the does so i can't turn around. a few seconds pass and i get buck fever so bad waiting on the buck to show himself, i about tremble out of the stand. i was able to compose myself and eventually a small 8pt shows himself at about 30yds and i never have to get my gun up.
told my hunting buddy about it and he laughed and was joking how many deer i’ve killed compared to him. he asked when (if) i was ever going to get over getting sporadic cases of 'the fever'. told him that if i was in a similar situation in the future, if i didn't get 'the fever' that i would put my rifle up and stop hunting. been doing it for 30 years and it never gets old.

The worst is when your shivering from cold, then get the fever. It makes the controllable cold shivers totally uncontrollable. i stand corrected. you are right. thats SUCKS!!!!

I hope it never goes away for me either. The rush is like no other. I had an encounter with a nice eight point on opening day of gun season. It never went into an area where I had a clean shot but at one point it was about fifteen yards directly behind me in a hedge thicket and all I could do was stare at him. I was shaking so badly I could hear the dried pine needles on the limbs of my tree shaking. He never spotted me so I thought he'd be back and I'd see him again. Still waiting . Even if I don't get a chance to take him, that's still in my top five hunting experiences. He and I spent about thirty minutes together. I'm glad since he wasn't going to move anywhere that I could shoot him that he finally went away because too much more might have killed me. I think I was pretty close to cardiac arrest a couple of times .
Always remember that safety comes first. Then pull the trigger.

That feeling you get when you first see a deer or hear one coming before you see it, nothing like it. I still get as tore up as I did twenty years ago, regardless of size. Yes!

Was hunting on a farmer's field last night. He's asked me to take as many does as I can cuz his fields are crawling with them!! HOORAY ME!!
I shot one at 5:00 and the dozen or so on the field scattered. Within 15 minutes, more were back on the field. It was about 250-275 yards to where they were and getting dark quickly. I made the decision to leave the blind and low crawl across the wide open field. The wind was in my face and I was staying low so I figured i'd be ok. Every 20 yards or so I'd stop to get a look. The thing that kept me crazy excited was that I was out in the open crawling toward them and they never saw me! I shot the closest one when I was 50 yards from her. That was a BLAST! A real heart pumper!
