Just curious. Would anyone hunt wheeler with a popup ground blind? Would it just be better to pile up some brush in a thick area? I don't have a climber. If/when I go, I want to go in pretty deep.

These refuge deer I hunt are very sharp and educated on ground blinds, they routinely bust hunters in gillie suits in timber blowdowns even when the hunters have the wind to their face. They know when something new is presented to them. I hope you get one from the ground, I would recommend getting a light weight climber and even then you will observe deer walking through the woods looking nearly straight up as they walk through a area. Highly educated deer on Wheeler!! Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I was wondering if they would know something was up.

I have had to climb trees that had multiple trunks and turn my stand to the inside so I could hide from the deer on Wheeler they are smart and wary

So climbing and hiding. Sounds like a plan.

This is my first year huntin wheeler. I've hunted it about 8 times with a pop up gb. saw deer and got a shot on a decent 6pt. (missed) one of the times. They didn't seem to notice me, but its definitely tougher.

Robert14, the different areas of Wheeler all have big bucks on them. The secret is to be very patient, and put your time in the stand. The one area that really sticks out in my mind for really big bucks in the last 5 to 6 years is the land between Red Bank Rd. to Bean Place Road. Red Bank Road is off US Hwy 31 in south Decatur just north of Hartselle. Best of luck!!
