A good friend of mine has a 2001 Honda Foreman 4X4 ES. He doesn't get to use it because he drives over the road and is never home, so he is selling it. It needs a little work. He already has rebuilt the engine and it ran afterwards. It needs a battery, choke cable, seat cover, 1 headlight, brakes need to be worked on, carb needs to be cleaned, and possibly a new shift motor. Since we are good friends I don't want to screw him over, but I don't want to screw myself either. What would be a fair price?

You can buy those is good condition and running for less than $2000 sometimes FAR less. I wouldn't give more than $500 and that would only depend on if I got to hear it run.

Hard to say on a near 10 year old machine; may have to find a mechanic to ask what it's worth vs what it's gonna take to get it running reliably; that 450 is a good strong machine

I'm suspicious why there is so much wrong. I have a 96 that's seen rough service that I haven't had anything go wrong, except for a part I broke while trying to run over something I shouldn't have been trying to run over.

Really depends on how it runs. Those bikes hold resale as good as any. I would find out how many miles, what was rebuilt in the motor and why it was rebuilt. The other stuff you listed is actually very minor and common stuff other than the shift motor which can be had reasonable. If the motor is good I would say $800-1200. Man thing is find out what was rebuilt and hear it run to make sure there isn't any ticking knocking noises.

What DP said, exactly. How come its so beat up?
I have a 93 fourtrax that has never been to the shop, except one time for brake shoes, has original tires, front and back. Just recently the rear axle splines and the mateing hub splines wore out and I welded the hub to the shaft and she is still doing fine. I might add that I hog hunted on it too for about 10 or 12 years.
