I hunted there about 3 yrs ago , was alot of deer then but havnt hunted there since. I have a neighbor thats works in that area , he says alot of it has been logged on the Highhill rd side . most of the bigger deer are killed on the other side toward Tusc. county side which is called Tiger mines area. Go by chek station , should have maps there , hope this helps.

The closer you can get to the river without coming in by boat and the farther you're willing to walk to get away from everyone the better your chances. At one time I don't know if its still true, but the largest deer ever to come off a management area in the state came from mulberry. I've seen a 140 inch 8 point from there and several other 110 to 130's to come out of there. They were killed by people I work with that hunt mulberry. They killed everyone of them on gun hunts. They walk way back in there and let pressure from the people coming in off the roads and coming off the river push the deer over them. They don't go in there blind they get out, scout and know where those deer are. That's the key put your boots on the ground and finding them.

Invest in some snake chaps if you already haven't there are a lot of those rasklers as my neighbor refers to down there. Everyone else in the U.S. calls them rattlesnakes. Get off in those hollows and get bit you can probably kiss it goodbye.

They are not in the deer management business, but in the tree growing business. If you see oak trees on level ground they probably will be gone soon.

Tons of deer and turkey's there. The terrain is rough and the cover is thick. There are hardwoods in the SMZs and along the river, but that's not where the deer are.

Used to be good deer and turkey population. Poster earlier was exactly correct - bigger deer are often killed there on the gun hunts (one around Christmas if memory serves me correct). There are some areas where you can ride a bicycle behind a gate and get back into an area pretty far... but check the map to make sure the areas aren't accessible very easy from another direction (made that mistake a couple of times). Look for heavy trails that will be used as escape routes into thicker cover and best of luck.
