Buck on the left in the bottom pic may be a cull. He looks like he may be batting for the other team.

thanks...y'all have a pretty high deer density, correct? Im talking to my family about trying beans in an 8-9 acre field in Jackson Co. I think we would be good but just wanted an idea from others who have tried.

Those are getting hammered! Love the cage picture.

What in the world did you spray on those soybeans besides roundup? I don't see a weed in the field. My roundup alone doesn't do that.

that may be the result of some selective photography! the pasture was full of grass, weeds, blackberries, and assorted saplings when we first got started. we bottom plowed in march and then disked twice over the next 6 weeks and that got rid of the majority of growth. after planting the soybeans, we waited about 5 weeks to roundup when the pasture grass and weeds started to really show themselves and that worked really well. the primary problems that i am starting to see now is the regrowth of numerous saplings that we had cut down prior to plowing as well as a fair amount of blackberry re growth. you can see in at least one of the pics how the saplings, which look mostly like persimmon but also sweetgum, are roaring back in some locations. they didnt seem to be phased by roundup at all. im hoping that disking will knock those back again next spring.

we've dealt with overgrown pastures and we had to literally go in and pull up the trees. Cutting them will not work but cutting them and spot spraying would be another option. Not saying cutting them several times a year of a period of a years wouldn't wipe them out, but most of us don't want to wait that long.

What an awesome transformation! You might catch someone slipping into that field on a combine shortly as good as those beans look! Congrats on your hard work.
