I'm also surprised at how many people are oblivious to what is yapping around them when they are driving. I'm ways looking for a way out in case things go bad.

I drove B'Ham to Tallahassee & back yesterday, I probably encountered Ben2 & a hundred more just like him, meandering along enjoying his right to block traffic and cause problems, obviously just being on the highway to enjoy the smells & sounds, the music of squealing tires and blaring horns wafting sweetly into his ears, with friends telling them that they are indeed number one as they finally make their way past. I passed the Prattville exit at 10, called the wife to tell her I was running a little late, and then.... all the joy and happiness was gone. A red wave of tail lights as far as the eye could see... An hour and a half later I got off at the Clanton exit, following some idiot in a white pickup full of cantaloupes who was obviously ensuring their safety and freshness by never exceeding 20 mph, and who needed to stop when approaching the cops with their white flashlights waving and pointing because apparently those directions just weren't clear enough, and when I was finally able to get around him (on the right, of course) the car ahead was completely out of sight.

Some people are alive only because it's against the law to kill them.

I rarely go over speed limit. Set my cruise and go..

This morning, the line in the left lane coming over double oak and down 280 was slower all the way in.

I encountered two tractor trailers in the right lane. Couldn't pass them, the cars in the left lane liked riding right next to them. Then one jumped into the left lane in a rare opening and that was it, the ride in was 30 minutes longer for everyone. All because the jackwagons in the left lane weren't passing as they should be.

I wish we could legally put one car per day into the wall or ditch. I'd drive a beater and clear the road of fools in 20 years.

I pass funeral processions slowly in the left lane and don't remove or tip my flatbill brah-style Fitty Cent cap for the dead, either. So there.

Driving takes a little common sense and courtesy. Both are lacking in today's world a lot of the time. I saw a vehicle very nearly get rear-ended by a speeding truck yesterday because Vehicle A pulled out slowly in front of it and didn't start gaining speed, and Vehicle B was speeding so excessively he took it off the road into a walkway to pass at the last split-second. Fortunately there was no one in the walkway and no other vehicles in that neighborhood entrance. But it almost was an OMG rear-ending accident.

I am so sorry other people intruded on your roads and did not drive by the rules you have set for them. Hopefully today they will obey your traffic regulations smile . And by the way several of yall seem to think going above the posted speed limit in the left hand lane is unnacceptable I am confused if I get in the left lane and pass cars by going 5 or 10 over the posted limit and then get back over once safe so you can fly by flipping me off how am I hendering you?

If you're passing someone and then move over I have no issues. Nor does anyone else. You ride in that lane and stay there, I think you are an arse and deserve whatever happens.

As I stated earlier, I rarely speed and NEVER ride in the left lane. Courtesy..learn it and practice it.

If everyone had a 50 bmg mounted to the front of their vehicle traffic would move much better and I bet safer, too.

Florida Gov. Scott signs law to speed up left lane drivers

Published: Jun 14, 2013 11:36 AM EDT
Updated: Jun 14, 2013 11:40 AM EDT

Tallahassee, Fl - Governor Rick Scott signed into law a measure requiring motorists to maintain the speed limit if they are driving in the left lane. If you drop below 10 miles per hour under the speed limit you could now be fined up to 60 dollars.

I've often thought this on the weekly drive thru Chilton Co. The dcnr should just pass a regulation that any driver going 5 miles under the speed limit in the left lane is now declared legal game. 49er, would that conflict with the constitution in any way? Doesn't matter, they have so many regs that conflict, what is one more? smile

x100

I drive in the left lane quite a bit as I'm normally traveling faster than most. But when I'm already speeding some, going around some slower cars, don't run up on me doing 85 and expect me to jump over out of your way instantly. I'll be glad to as soon as I'm done passing or there is a big gap I can tuck into.

But find some self control, some restraint, some civility and back off the gas pedal for a little while. Same goes for the slow drivers in the left lane....move over and stay over. Find some common sense, some situational awareness, some graciousness not to impede traffic but driving under the posted speed limit in the left lane.

If you are going the speed limit in the left lane, I'll wait patiently for a little bit for you to move over when there is room...assuming you are actually passing and making progress. But if you are side by side with another car for more than a half mile or so and not making any progress, then put your foot on the pedal and gain 2-3 mph and get around and move over so I can scoot on down the road and out of your way. If not, I'll ask you to hurry up with my headlights or horn...politely as possible.

On speeding...if you are going more than 10 mph over the posted speed limit on most roads, then you are being reckless and endangering people, families, kids. Some roads are posted far too low, but most are close to right.

Patience is the key. I don't get all bent out of shape on the road. Ive been in bad wrecks and don't want to be in any more. Im always where I need to be as far as appointments 5-10 minutes early and I rarely break the speed limit doing it. My wife is just the opposite, leaving by the skin of her teeth and late EVERY time. I cant stand it, I drive separately often when we are going to the same place. She's got bad road rage too. I just dont let driving get to me, relax and get there when you get there...and live a little longer in the process. thumbup

This says a lot about your mindset, I suggested no rules or regulations, made no claims of ownership of the highway, yet you seem to have recognized that your offensive driving habits may need some sort of legal ramifications. You need help.

I find this thread interesting as i spend many hours on interstates during a week's time. I fly a lot too and i know as most of you do that driving is more dangerous.

In my attempt to get home safely to my family, when in Rome be Roman, If I am in Atlanta or Birmingham the safe thing to do is drive with the flow of traffic. So if it's 80 than so be it.

I can stereotype the left hand drivers but won't. I will tell you that the most dangerous animal on the planet is not in Africa, It is here on I65 and mostly a young male or female with a cell phone.

One of my pet peeves is 18 wheelers and common courtesy, I am the guy that slows down and flashes lights to let them take left lane. I have just seen too many of them decide to come on out anyway with the size matters deal. Not that its just truck drivers. Anytime I can ride in right lane, thats where i am but if I am in left lane I drive with the flow of traffic.

Oh well, I say a prayer every time I buckle up, and try not to take highway life for granted.

I thought of this thread when driving thru Chilton Co yesterday. As always, we got behind a long line of cars as we approached the short 4 lane area of HWY 22. I told my wife it was 100% that the lead vehicle would hit the left lane, and sure enough, he did. The next 2 did too. The 4th one was from another county and he shot into the right lane and made it by them. Car #5 was a Chilton Countian and he hit the right lane and matched his speed to the other cars, effectively blocking me.

I got right on his bumper and he finally eased by them, and then I shot between him and the lead vehicle just before the 4-lane ended and was free of them all.

The lead vehicle was a panel truck with a county tag on it. So now we all know the truth - Ben2 works for Chilton County! I suspected he at least lived there.

smile Just kidding, Ben.
