I have a new honda rancher 420 that I bought in March/April and twice have had an issue where I could not get it into neutral to start it. In each case it was in gear when I turned it off and for some reason I can't get it back into neutral without going through the gears a billion times. I'm going to take it to the dealership tomorrow but was curious if anyone had any ideas? I figure part of it could just be that it isn't broken in yet but would rather be safe than sorry since it is under warranty.

Do you ever roll it backwards or forwards with your feet to switch gears to get it to neutral? All four wheelers need a little wheel movement to shift.

I tried that this evening BUT it was in the back of my truck so I didn't want to roll too far because I wasn't gonna push that sumbitch back up in there.

You shouldn't have to move it but an inch or so, just enough to take the pressure off the gears.

Wouldnt it feel stuck though if that were the case? I could hear it "click" each time I tried to shift but it just wouldnt pop into neutral.

Yeah it would feel stuck. Who knows you may have a problem but that would be weird coming from a Honda. I have never had a single mechanical problem from a Honda.

I'm on my second 420 that is 2 mon. old and both along with the other Honda 4 wheelers I've owned have been like this as well. For the 420 Honda owners that don't know, these wheelers will crank in gear if you press the R/H brake.

My foreman would crank like that too.

Yep, just pull in the frt brake lever just a little till you hear the click and it will crank in gear.

I still have to rock mine a little to get it in neutral. If it still won't shift let the Honda place look at it.

I have one that is stubborn about going into neutral when I leave it in gear on the trailer. I usually roll it off the trailer in gear and this seems to intensify the trouble of getting it into neutral. It has over 3000 hours on it and that is the only gripe I have with it. Small price to pay for dependability. Just rock that sucker back and forth and keep pushing the lever until the green button comes on. Eventually it will.

I can't stand a thief.

i just learned something new. i have a foreman 500ES but i always put it in N before i turn it off. it seems easier to get in N when its running but even if it's sitting still sometimes i have to rock it back and forth...

Used to have one that did it, I just rocked it and it would change.

Roger that. I drove the thing, its fine. He just tries to shift the dang thing while its strapped to the bed of the truck and doesnt rock it a little. And on top of that take it to the dealer?

They should take the four wheeler from him, give him a box of tampons and send him home.

I'm going to tell Leslie that you are being a moron again. It only happened once in the truck, the other time rocking it didn't help. I hope your boat sinks when I am not on it.
