What I fear is a bait pile being put out in an area and another member hunts the area and does not know it is there. I do not even want to be in an area with bait whether I am legal or not but that is a personal preference. I do not know what our club is going to do but I hope we take a vote of the members to either allow it or not. No gray area. What is your club rules going to be?

Same as always ... no feeding from at least 10 days before dove hunting season starts until after turkey season ends.

But then you still have the problem of hunting pigs and coyotes where other members who don't mind lying when they sign a depredation permit may have put their bait after other hunting seasons end, or the ones who use bait for their cameras.

I don't hunt coyotes and pigs unless it's during hunting season for that very reason. I will not lie in order to use a depredation permit. If I don't lie to get DCNR's permission, then the bait someone else uses can get me in trouble.

If any member wants to place corn we will have designated areas to put it. We have 976 ac,800 in a block where camp is under 6pt or better rule and 2 off properties. 100 & 76 ac pieces and that's where they will have to put it. I hunt the large tract 99% of the time a d I don't want it any where I may hunt. All members agreed on this so I hope there won't b any problems.

I'm just waiting on you guys to come up with a good club rule that I can copy it over to my rules. This whole thing seems way too cpmplicated for us normal hunters. Why can't we just shoot deer like we always did?

3 designated feeding areas on 800 acres.

There are no stands within 250-300 yds of these locations and none are by fields.

We will have ten feeding sites on our 2,000 acres. They will be marked on our sign-in board so that everyone knows the locations. It will be up to the guys to make sure they do not hang stands which violate the policy.

We have nearly 500 acres 80 is owned by my grandparents the rest is leased. We will probably set up 3-5 areas with food and cameras. Probably try to make it in thicker areas for the out of sight rule. The out of sight rule may limit a few areas of the lease because they are hardwood stands and its hard to find a place that you can't see 100yds. Everyone will have to know where these areas are so as not to be too close. While I don't like the law and would prefer complete legalization I am looking forward to having feed out for camera use. I just about enjoy checking cameras and seeing pictures as much as hunting.

Put out feeder, get 100 1/2 yards away and shoot if you want. Hunters spend thousands of dollars a year on food plots, sex lures, mineral licks and other attractants to make it easier to shoot a deer, a legal feeder is the same thing, IMHO.

This is all assuming that the feed suppliers can keep up with the demand. Two years ago all the Walmarts were out of corn at the end of December. And please don't ask how I knew that.

Why change anything - if your last sentence is really an honest question, sounds like you have your rule already.

That will likely get you a ticket for hunting with the aid of bait.

It's not that simple if you read the rule change like the lawyers who came up with it read the language.

Quote:
... A rebuttable presumption is one that is taken to be true unless someone comes forward to contest it and prove otherwise, Guy said.

"In this case, the rebuttable presumption is that if you are in compliance with the regulation, you're presumed not to be baiting, but that can be overcome by the evidence," Guy said.

The burden of proof still rests with the state to establish that the hunter placed the feed outside of an on-going supplemental feeding program and with the intent to lure or attract game to within shooting range, Guy said.

Alabama's conservation law enforcement chief Kevin Dodd said the new regulation will still require his officers to use their discretion when making baiting cases ...

You should have the same rules for feeders as green fields and mineral licks. Every body has to split hairs. It's all hunting a food source. Hunting a persimmon tree, oak tree, water hole, it's all the same...........

We are glad to see it personally. I don't think it legalizes baiting but at least it puts us all on an equal footing.

By that I mean we have had neighbors baiting for years (at least in our imagination) and now we can fight fire with fire and still hunt legally. Like most, we will have 4-5 feeding stations on our 750 acre lease, all away from food plots and stands.

You can like the rules or not, this is what we have. For all of Mr. Maxwells cut and paste protestations, GW will write tickets (or NOT) based on what is approved by the CAB and passed afterward. This (CAB situation) may or may not be legal, that is for someone else to iron out. I'm simply driving on this road and following the posted signs I can see.

I know this has been hashed out already, but what was the purose of the "feeding" law anyway? Are the deer starving? In the states where hunting over bait is legal, they are trying to give the hunters a better chance to kill, right? So if the deer aren't starving and you can't hunt over the feed, then what is the purpose of the law?
