I had to leave a big one gobbling yesterday at my lower chuffa patch. Before daylight this morning (really windy) I set up on the ridge above the patch.....Nothing. Finally heard some gobblers open up on the other side of my lease. Ran back to the truck and drove around, slipped down to the ridge and promptly spooked a hen. Gobblers got a little worried and started the other way. I got situated overlooking a big hollow where they hang out. I was on the ridge in some privet, and there's some white oaks there. My other chuffa patch is behind me here. Anyway, the gobblers went all the way out of hearing. I was calling a bit, and was about to leave when a hen showed up right in front of me. Don't know where she came from. She knew something wasn't right, but didn't get too alarmed. Started putting, then when she went down the ridge she started yelping loud, like she was pissed. I could barely hear the gobblers answering her. After about 10 minutes of this it got quiet, then after 20 minutes or so, the gobblers cut loose right below me in the hollow. I hit the call 3 times and laid it down. 30 seconds later there were turkeys all below me. 2 big boys broke off and came straight up the hill to me. They got well within range and I just watched the show a minute. Both were strutting and gobbling. I ended it with a load of heavy shot. I'm thinking this is a 3 year old bird. He is 22.5 pounds. Heaviest I've gotten in a few years. Fun hunt. The chuffa patch made the difference. They sure are easy to call if you are where they want to be anyway........

Cool! Can't wait to get my first one. Fellow at our lease killed a 28 pounder Saturday. Good gosh...28 pounds. I've never gotten close to that. Hang with it. The gobblers are still bunched up together around here.
