If I keep my guns in a safe in the detached garage that is neither heated or cooled will the temperature change cause rust or any other problems. I was thinking about condensation in the summer when it's hot all day and gets cool at night. Has anyone ever had any experience with this?
Thanks!

You will need to get a dehumidifier for your gun safe if you are going to keep it outside in any type of building that is not climate controlled.

x2 If outside, the wood areas or synthetic area(whichever) will form mold.... That can be dangerous for health reasons if you don't recognize it...

Setting the safe up off the floor makes it easier to steal. Not sure if it helps stop condensation or not.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Thanks for the replies. I may decide to get a smaller safe that will fit the the closet. But if I go with the garage I will get a dehumidifier. Thanks.

i would not!!!! buy a smaller safe, in fact BUY one bigger than you think you need. You will be surprised at how much stuff will end up in it. Mine has been in the garage for nearly a decade with no rust problems and has had a humidifyer rod running since day one.

Definitely get the larger safe and have them throw in a dehumidifier. Only thing buying a smaller safe will do is make you kick yourself when you have to go buy a larger safe.

Buy the biggest one you think you will ever need, then buy one two sizes larger. I bought one way bigger than I thought I needed. Thanks to my lovely bride, and my love of guns, I wish it were bigger.

i found a pretty cool dehumidifier at tractor supply. its like a 2 lb can of silica gel and when the silica gel has picked up all the moisture it can hold the beads change color and you put it in the oven and dry it out and put it back in the safe. i like it because i dont have to run a wire into my safe and i dont want anything electrical in my safe that could start a fire. i think it was 12 bucks
