In all honesty, open areas are better from my experience. The wind cuts down on their hearing, but open areas allow them to compensate for it with vision. Now, they wont move near as much, due to their limited defenses, but if I was going to hunt in it, a powerline, or big plot would be best.

Thick stuff. Sorry to disagree with jchan, but the windier it gets the thicker I get. Bucks especially, move a lot in thick cover when the winds howl. My most productive mature buck killing days have come with 20+mph winds.

I am the type that would rather hunt thick stuff with a bow than open areas with a gun, but when the winds pick up, I just cant stand it thick. Maybe because I am so used to hearing them before I see them. I dont know. Maybe I need to reconsider my approach (haha). Maybe the wind limits my "offenses" more than the deer's defenses....lol!

Thick pines are good find a good trail to sit on, green plots the deer are really nervous and very much alert but sometimes they pay off to hunt.

In the myn there are always hollows you can get out of the wind in.
