Yes, there are deer there. There is also a strong pig population. The property is easily accessable from Marine Lab and Henderson Camp roads. It is underutilized and should have some good hunting. I do not hunt the area, but am involved in the management of the property. It was recently burned and the habitat is really coming around.

Isn't that an understatement? I'm thinking this was the tract in So. Mobile Co. where the fire was a good bit hotter than planned?

"Cull" is just another four letter word...

Yeah, thats the one. Contract fire done by some folks who were unprepared for southern rough and sea breezes. Looked bad because it got a lot of coverage from the media, but all in all, the objectives where acheived and only burned into about 30 acres of private property. That private property has started to rebound well and should look good also come springtime. The fire really promoted the native grasses and took out all the thick underbrush that was hurnting that place.

I'm new to hunting. Is there public land in Grand Bay that I don't know about? That would be great.

Resurrecting this old thread. Spent the last two days poking around there. Found some pig sign and a deer crossing....and mosquitoes and ticks galore.

USCG - have you hunted it?

Coyote - are you with the Forest Service? I talked with some FS guys about the land while we were doing Fire Safety Day at Dauphin Island Little Red School house. I am with the DIVFD.

Maybe after a good cold snap it'll be easier to move around in there between the critters and brush.
