I heard from a friend who is a reporter in Montgomery wink

Not really super secret, but interesting information nonetheless.

A cousin of mine (Joanna Blake) who is an Auburn grad and business partner of the head of the Art dept(Gary Wagoner) at AU were at a party I attended on the 4th. Joanna is a fantastic artist and has done a lot of sculpting/art work around the AU campus and in D.C. including the entryway WW2 monument.

Anyway I inquired about the oaks and after some talking they told me IF THE TREES DIE they might do something like this:

Those are hurricane Katrina-killed Live oaks in in Biloxi. Think about Eagles, tigers, Dyes lost pants wink footballs etc...
I would imagine my cousin would have a great shot at doing the carvings if things turn bad for the Oaks. I think its a great idea to carry on the tradition.

Saw them today, biggest tree at intersection of College and Magnolia looks very bad. The smaller tree down Magnolia shows signs of life.

I think that is a great idea. But, I would be concerned about bird droppings and stuff. How would they keep them clean?

The ones in Biloxi don't look dirty or anything. They look like they are varnished. I would expect you could treat them and clean them like you would any other wooden structure.

Were birds not allowed to crap in the trees while they were alive?

I think it's a horrible idea. Just replace the trees and dare a Mullet to come near them.

If they want to make a piece of artwork from the stump cut it off and put it elsewhere.

Auction them off for firewood - Bamers would pay a fortune for it.

If they go ahead and take the old trees down (they were almost dead before Updyke got to them anyway) and replant some saplings, by the time Auburn wins another Nat'l Championship they will be over 50 years old and plenty big enough to chunk butt paper into again.

Is that what you use in yours?

I guess they could take them down in pieces, carry them down to yellerwood and have them zapped, and them put them back in place and add some plastic leaves. I wonder what the plans are?
