I'm running really behind this year with my summer plots. I just got them in the ground this weekend. I planted 1/2 of a 4 acre plot in RR corn with a 75lbs of RR soybeans mixed in to help shade weeds out. The other half I planted in pure RR soybeans. I planted a 1 1/2 acre plot in Iron and Clay peas, conventional soybeans, and added 10 lbs of black oil sunflower seeds to give the peas something to climb on. I sprayed Prowl H2O on the plot after I seeded it. Hopefully it will control Sicklepod.
We've got adequate deep soil moisture here but could use some. We got .2" rain yesterday and it didn't settle the surface dust. We're predicted to get rain tomorrow. I sure pray it comes.

My Eagle forage beans are about 10-12 inches tall now and corn is doing good too. Going to go over it with a a round of glyphosate in the next 10 days or so.
I planted with a great plains drill on april 12, which was the earliest I have ever planted but the gamble is paying off. That dry spell we had in late april did worry me though.
Got a total of 37 acres in the ground.

Glad it's doing good for you. We've had some rain here, but it's getting dry. Rained all around us last night but I don't think we got any. The next 7 days are going to really dry things up. I hope what I planted can get a start.

I planted about 2 acres of RR corn/soybean mix this past Sunday afternoon. I got 1.5 inches last night, could not have been better timing. You're right. I did the same, but watched it rain on the asphalt in town on radar all night. We got a sprinkle.

I'm not sure what the H2O stands for and what it adds to Prowl, but regular Prowl has no effect that I can tell on sicklepod. 2,4-DB will slow the sicklepod up, but I don't know what it would do to your crop.
I've got a field of johnson grass that I was gonna keep sprayed with gly this year to try to eventually kill it, so I decided to throw out some RR corn. Figured I might as well be growing something while trying to kill the johnson grass. Got no idea how well this will work. May have to hit the johnson grass with some other herbicide, like Fusilade, after the corn is made to finish it off.
Bad news is I ran over a turkey nest when mowing the field; hen barely made it out alive.

PCP, I don't figure it will do much good on keeping the sicklepod from coming up, but maybe it will keep some of it out. We have a rope wick, so I will be using it on the sicklepod once it gets taller than the beans.
Your plan on the johnson grass is good. If you try it again next year you might want to go with soybeans so you can spray it more times. Corn gets tall quick enough that I have trouble getting good weed control in it without knocking it over with the sprayer booms.

I checked on my plots this evening. I wasn't expecting to see anything up, but did see a few small soybean plants popping thru. If we don't get some rain soon, it won't matter.

I have no idea where all my time went but somehow I did not make it to start my garden work until two weeks ago and I kind of have a feeling that it already might be too late now. I wasn't able to get my usual seranata plant delivery earlier than two and a half weeks ago due to my lack of time for making an order and I wasn't even able to put it into the garden for about half a week, which is definitely not good for the plants. Nonetheless, now I try to make the best out of it hoping that everything will flower still.

pcp, H2O is just a flowable instead of emulsifiable. Same stuff, just stains less. And less chance of splash when mixing...
And stick with glyphosate on the johnsongrass, fusilade is junk. Thanks for the info! If fusilade is junk on johnsongrass, it is sure expensive junk. I will stick with the cheap stuff. >>>PCP, I don't figure it will do much good on keeping the sicklepod from coming up, but maybe it will keep some of it out. We have a rope wick, so I will be using it on the sicklepod once it gets taller than the beans. Your plan on the johnson grass is good. Corn gets tall quick enough that I have trouble getting good weed control in it without knocking it over with the sprayer booms.<<< Broadstrike will keep sicklepod from coming up; I don't know how it would work in a wick, but probably far better than Prowl. I went with corn instead of soybeans because the deer won't let soybeans grow at all on my place. They eat them as soon as they come up and that's it. I planted the corn in a rather "unique" way. Just mixed the seed with the fertilizer and threw it out with my spreader in "rows" that are about 15' wide. Then I left about 10' between the rows to run the atv down and throw the gly up into the corn. I may be wrong, but I believe that I can keep the entire field clean of everything except the RR corn. Sorry to hijack the thread, but maybe Turfgrass can help me with this one - one of the fields I planted this corn in is my best chufa field. It has a good mix of volunteer chufa, yellow nutsedge and purple nutsedge. I'm planning to keep hitting it with gly all summer and try to at least knock the nutsedges back so that I can grow chufa again for a couple of years. I've got no illusions of wiping it out; just knocking it back some. Anything I could mix with the gly that would help? I could wait until the corn is made to use it. Thanks for any ideas.

PCP, Prowl H2O is a pre-emergent. I sprayed it on the soil after planting. I don't think it has any post emergent uses but I may be wrong.
If I need to get the wick out, it will be full of Glyphosate.
The way you are planning on spraying the corn should work. I use a tractor pulled sprayer and use the booms to spray my stuff with. Sounds like you will be using a hand held wand to spray yours with.

I'm using a boomless sprayer on the atv. It has 2 nozzles and I can cover about 30' per pass. I like using it a lot better than the big boom sprayer on the tractor.
Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying on using the prowl. I've used it before on the chufas, and it works good on grass. I think you oughta look into trying broadstrike next year if you have a sicklepod problem. It really does a good job. It was developed for soybeanns

Pictures! Looks like yours need a drink of water too. Somethings eating the leaves off your soybeans. Prolly big grasshoppers.

Did you broadcast one field and plant the other with a planter?
