Depends on the location, topography, and cover. I generally get no less than 20', most are 22-26'. I always place the stand on the opposite side of the tree that I think deer will approach from. That way I can get away with some movement while the deer approach or feed, and I can draw my bow or raise my gun behind the tree, and then lean out slowly to take aim. I almost never get seen in the tree.

Same here while bow huntin. 50 ft average in a pine using a rifle.

You must have several super tall skinny pines in your area. I average 25-35 feet per climb depending on the tree and landscape.

With a bow it's all about cover. It takes alot of movement to draw a bow so you should ALWAYS use cover as much as possible With a bow i'll take cover over height anyday

YALL ARN'T GOING TO BELIVE ME, But I have killed more deer with a bow from the ground than I have in a tree. Make sure you have your wind in check and get fully camo. It doesn't matter if i'm in a tree or on the ground just blend in.

I like to be around 20' but with some cover. I agree, I like to climb 17-20 feet and be behind the tree when deer approach. Unless I am on a field, in that case at least 25' high. I have cut branches from around my stand and brush myself in during early season when the tree canopy in thick woods prevents you from climbing very high. I shot 2 bucks last year in bow season, 1 from 8 feet high the other about 15 feet high. Both cases I climbed as high as the tree would let me and had good cover and shot the deer at 20 yards and 13 yards respectively.
