Be cheaper to buy a used mobile home, wouldn't be as cool though,my friend has a 1 bedroom,1 bath with kitchen and living room, with a deck around it,it's been used as a bachelor pad for 15 years but would make an awesome hunting cabin,400 sq ft is only 20x20 so that's not very big,you can fix a portable building up like a cabin if you want that small and can move it if you need to.You could build a 1 bed 1 bath for 10-15 grand if you keep it simple like you said

Go look at home depot, it wouldn't take anything to finish one of those prefabed buildings they have.

I've got a 12x16 building that I thought of making a cabin out of. I had them beef the skids up to 6x6's when I bought it and put shelves in it. I paid 1200 for mine but added in heavier lumber to the floors too when I was doing it. If you insulated it and ran power, built a porch, and run a window unit you could stay in it just fine for a few days. SOB gets hot in the summer time.

Hwy 280, Westover, across the road from Rambo Marine is a place that sells wooden buildings. I saw three or four that would work for a hunting cabin for considerably less than $20k. You could customized to your needs with very little effort.
If i were you, that's what I'd do.

I'm building a 12x28 right now. I gonna have about 7000 in it when its done. I got sick of campers and to be honest a house trailer is not much better. Good thing about a small building is you can move it on a roll back trailer. My cabin has 2 rooms. I is a bedroom bathroom combined and the other room is a kitchen great room combined. I installed an on demand gas water heater and installed the plumbing so the pipes are easy to drain and winterize. I used R19 in the ceiling and R13 in the walls. I have a 12000 btu Ac and I'm gonna heat it with a 3 stack gas heater. Should be very low maintance and easy to heat and cool.

Yeah I'm building. A 20x8 buildings built it only 8ft wide so that I could leave it completely built and put it on a roll back without having to get an oversize permit. It's costing me under $1000 for the building that's without wiring and insulation. So it can be done fairly cheap.

I bought a 12X28 storage building used that already had insulation, wiring and sheet rock for $3,800. Then we added a bath with shower and small kitchen area. Sleeps 5. We have about $5k in everything.

I might be wrong, but I could have swore the hunting club across from where I used to hunt in Marengo County had a few of the buildings you can get at H&H. Artistic Whitetails could confirm. One in particular I went in was finished on the inside like what you mentioned. Pretty good setup and had a covered porch added across the front.
