Oh i remember those days, and come renewal time it is kind of pricey too i remember, did it twice before i didn't renew, too many limits as to where you can't carry, and me being a reloader... was not good, they said factory ammo only... i sold out of handguns and then at renewal time i told them thanks but no thanks.

I live in Washington County, Al. and it takes about 15 to 20 minutes and $20 unless you're a trouble maker! Friendly folks that are glad to see you around here! No waiting periods or appointments to make just walk in and tell them what you need you get it right there! Unless of course you act like the jackass in this recording who went to the Sheriffs office carrying a tazer on his side and a recorder looking for trouble! Then our good Sheriff will put you in your place!

Just mailed my app to Shelby County, we will see how long it takes. Mailed 4/4, received permit back in mail 4/7. They must have processed same day, nice job Shelby county.

5-6 weeks for Madison County. It's a 15 minute wait in Limestone County, just to the west. 5-6 weeks is ridiculous. The only good news is that you can re-up via mail just by sending in a copy of your current license plus the fee. Here's a pretty decent permit reminder site: http://www.usacarry.com/permitreminder/
