I came back home to Crenshaw Co. to hunt for the weekend this weekend. I was home with my girlfried last weekend and was on birds Saturday and Sunday but couldn't ever get a shot for her. So today I went back to this pasture where we got on a bird last weekend. I set up on the side of the field where he went to strut on last Saturday. He started gobbling good on the roost and was right where I figured he would be. About 5 minutes after he started gobbling I heard a noise behind me and turned around and there were 2 coyotes about 10 yards away. I flagged my arms at them and one ran across the pasture and the other took off through the woods. The gobbler shut up for a little while after that so I was thinking it may have messed me up but he fired back up a little later. They usually pitch out into the pasture when they roost in this spot but today they flew down in the woods. I stayed in my spot and eventually the gobbler and a jake walked out into the pasture, and a hen walked out between me and them. The gobbler and jake started making their way towards the hen. Every time the jake would get out front the gobbler would charge him and run him off, but he kept coming back. They eventually made their way up to me and I shot him at about 40 yards. Last week there were a couple of other gobblers hanging around the pasture but I think this bird had run them off. Hopefully they will move back in now that he's gone. Here's a gamecam pic of him. He was pretty easy to recognize because he was missing a fan feather.

He had a 10.5 in beard, 1 1/8 and 1 3/16 spurs, and weighed almost 20 lbs.

Good one! Congrats!

The best index to a person’s character is (a) how he treats people who can’t do him any good, and (b) how he treats people who can’t fight back.
